BJJ Tattoos

GSP and Fitch got the Kanji for JJ on their heart.

Actually just FYI GSP's tattoo says jiu-jitsu but Fitch's tattoo says "sacrifice."

what about a tattoo of Jesus on the cross wearing a gameness gi?

what about a tattoo of two hands (palm facing foward like grappling)? each palm would have one of component of Kanji of JJ?

fitch - xi sheng, sacrifice in traditional chinese

Yeah, or "gisei" in Japanese. Same word, different pronounciation.

I think it looks fine, but when westerners get kanji tattoos they always get them in a standard/modern font. I think those tattoos would look way, way cooler if they got them in a calligraphy/cursive script instead.

For example David Beckham has passage of Classical Chinese tattooed on him in cursive script:

It says 生死有命 富貴在天, which is a Chinese proverb meaning "Life and death are determined by fate, riches and honor depend upon heaven." It looks quite nicely done. Apparently he got it from one of the best tattoo artists in Hong Kong.

Really? That's kind of weird to me. All of my tattoos, and I'm about 50% covered, are for me only.

thats exactly where Im at, I have three tats right now and every one of them represents something important to me, some meaning that is a major part of my life.

If someone looks at my art and enjoys, thinks its a great tat then thats a bonus but I really dont care what anyone else thinks in the end they are for me.

I was thinking about getting a dragon on my back and me armbaring the dragon with a wizard hat on

Hey guys sorry to bring up this old forum but I've been consideri g a tat for a while. I started coming up with some ideas but was kinda at a cross roads. In a blue belt but have been commited to bjj for three plus yrs now. So my idea was to draw a pic of a bjj fighter and get a saying...not sure what saying yet. Question is would I look like a poser getting this. I was thinking about getting it on my inner bicep nothing big. No logo..yet.. Just a bjj figther kinda hunched down wearing a GI. I don't want to seem like some tough guy poser but just want it to give me motivation to continuing trainingg. And to show my love for the sport. My other idea was a samurai becaise of what they stood for. Just want some input before I go through with this

poser? not in my book.

if you've been doing it for 3 years, you've put in your dues, and earned the right to call it your passion.

besides, who is the person to judge who you are?

Thanks man. Yeah I really do love the sport I follow it as much as can and juat wanna rep it with a tat

then again, i'm just a 17 year old one half year white belt, so i'm not sure what the repercussions are. i'm just saying that i think that you're earned the right to consider yourself a representative of the sport.

oh, and curious, what does your sig mean?

Do people in non-english speaking countries get tattoos in english?

Just wondering if this is a two-way street...

well, i live in an south east asian country. the majority are fluent in english, they can communicate properly but once you start using not so common they're lost. there are 2 types, those who speak predominantly english, or those who speak predominantly their mother tongue.

i've never met someone who speaks predominantly their mother tongue and got a tattoo in english.

I'm a fan of tattoos. I'm a fan of BJJ. Although I don't think I am a fan of BJJ tattoos.

I prefer old school, or japanese tattoos (sleeves, back pieces). No Kanji for me. But to each his own.

if i get a tattoo i'll only get it in a few years time. i don't trust that i'm mature enough to make a solid decision.

can you imagine if i got a tattoo if i was 15? i would be walking around with good charlotte and my chemical romance tattoos. if i get a tatt now i would probably be embarrassed when i'm 25.

i'm not saying it's the same since the people with them here probably speak a fair amount of english (which isn't always the case for english speakers with tattoos of kanji, etc.), but i live in korea and have seen a definite increase in the number of tattoos written in english (as well as tattoos in general) over the last couple of years. usually, it'll be a few words of english written in stylish script. thankfully, i haven't noticed any mistakes yet - but i haven't looked very closely either.
