are there really BJJ symbols besides gracie triangle or a school logo?
does the machados have a symbol?

I know a few people with this logo, just not the writing just logo.

a BJJ tattoo would be sick but i want something other then the gracie triangle

The main of many reasons why I wouldn't get a BJJ tattoo is if some idiot at a party/bar sees it, I'll have to talk to him about he trains by watching submissions 101 youtube videos.

I'd love to get a BJJ tattoo... but I'm smart enough to wait until I've been doing it for a few YEARS, minimum, before I do it.

I got one pertaining to my career (EMS) but I waited until I had done it for 13 years. That's long enough that even if I left my job tonight, it would still represent a significant part of my life and I would still be very happy to carry a permanent reminder of it.

A tattoo pertaining to a career or sport or hobby is fine, IMHO, so long as that activity molded who you are. If it was such an integral part of your life that it actually shaped the person you became, then more power to you. Who am I to tell you that you have no right to bear a reminder of it?

Just hope he doesn't follow his instructor's steps and split only to later regret having plastered an Ad. on his back. The Behring logo is tight. You could explain that away as anything, from mystic bloody rain forests to Maori art, but the, 'I train BJJ with xyz' tat is somewhat harder...

I don't think every single tattoo someone gets has to have some immensly deep and personal meaning. Why not get it bc they like it and think its cool, esp if BJJ is important to them.

I have to disagree. I'm 27 and I'd be pissed now if I got that tribal band I wanted when I was 18.

Figured this would be a good place to ask...

I'm gonna get inked soon. How long do I have to be off the mat? Until it heals fully? Or can I roll with the gauze or whatever over it?

I hear a lot of different opinions on this subject but:

My tattoo artists swears that the tattoo shouldn't be covered at all when it's healing. I haven't asked specifically but I'm sure most artists would advise against any mat activities for a couple weeks.

It would ruin your tattoo if you caused too much rubbing/friction on it.

^ NO! Do not train until he has compeltely healed. About 2 weeks or so.

Hopefully what youre getting doesnt require you to have a 2nd sitting a month or two later.

Its covered for the first two hours after the inking, then you must clean it with cold water and antibac soap. Apply A&D usually 3 times a day, and stay out of a hot shower, steam and ESPECIALLY the sun until healed. Usually after a week or 10 days it should be close to fine. But in terms of the possibility of rolling, id suggest about 2 weeks to be safe.

You dont want that thing infected, or ruined.

I think thats an extreme example. Plus there is always cover ups and places that can't really be seen. I am saying something that is at least thought out, not something drunkenly picked out off the wall.

Alright for sure, thanks.

Same. 27 years old. Got one tattoo when I was 17, same thing, Tribal shit back in 2000 before everyone and their mom had it. Can't wait to laser it over or cover it. I have a tattoo on my other arm that I love because I actually took the time(2 years) to find what I wanted...pick it out. As opposed to the tribal shit that took 5 minutes to pick....
