Learned a closed guard sweep for when they stand in your guard; drilled only a bit then went right into rolling. Fucked up my fingers on BOTH hands by jamming them against my partners by accident during transitions, or getting them rolled on, etc. Whatever, my hands and digits are so tiny, so susceptible to injury it happens all the time. I wake up every morning and my fingers are so stiff and painful that I can't close a fist. This is like normal for me.

Tapped a smaller purple belt with a collar and leg choke, though got tapped by him like 2-3 times including one good arm bar when I tried to use the baseball bat choke on him. Went with a very good, technical blue belt who destroyed me last time, but I approached him cautiously and smarter this time and we were very close for a while though I was getting mounted and defending a lot. From bottom half he was passing so I put in my baseball bat grips, he passed and I spun for the choke. He fought for a while but eventually went out, the 5th (I think?) person I've choked unconscious now since arriving here. It's so routine, I recognize the 'gone' look on their face, let go, turn them on their backs and lift their legs right away and it's so expected. My gf said, "Um maybe you should ask someone about this if it keeps happening."

So fingers and wrist are feeling really painful and fucked up and conditioning was god-awful tonight. But besides that, okay I suppose.

Omg that's awesome and ridiculous. I don't know if you should just keep doing it or hold a press conference and let everyone know if they don't tap you'll put em ta sleep!

Why aren't they tapping to it? It must come on extremely quick.

Because, unless I'm thinking of the wrong choke, your opponent feels like their in a position of dominance and safe. Think of having someones back and setting up your own choke, but you are actually being choked too. It sucks tapping to something when you're in a position where you've always learned you can't be attacked from

Goon is right. The choke sets in and they lose consciousness while on top. You are basically choking them from the position of having both hands over your shoulder like Santa Claus has his bag of toys. They are on top, you are turned away from them, it just doesn't feel like a submission. People often say the same thing after waking up, "I thought I was fine, then I was out!"

Notes

-Trained at my friend's garage gym, unheated which was a first. Felt like Oblivian ;)

-Working up to 255 felt strong as hell. All reps were lowered with control and felt very strong.

-Tried ring dips for the first time ever; looked like I was having a seizure trying to gain composure on them. Oh my god, impossible right now! I'll keep trying but I couldn't even do one rep.

-With the weighted dips, I used a backpack full of sand that he had and estimated it was around 40-50lbs. Based on how it felt and by comparison to 35lbs, it was at least 40lbs, I feel.

Did some live work out of butterfly that felt good; then just rolling. Went with a few blues and whites; won some and lost some, nothing too noteworthy. Got the leg-over-the-head choke whatever its called from side control a few times.

Resting today.

Was reminded last night that I have family coming the weekend of the March tourney, and thus it's scratched for me :( Will be keeping an eye out for upcoming ones though.

Lame! I was hoping to meet you broski.

I think your family should watch you compete then take you to eat.lol

We have a guy at our academy & that baseball bat choke is his go-to move. Sucks.

Small class, just myself and two brand new white belts. Did our drills and went over some details on the hook flip butterfly sweep some more. Also just overall butterfly guard basics that I've never learned before. It was a productive class. Did a little bit of rolling with our BB instructor, then hands-free rolling with the white belts. Rolled with another big guy who came in to open mat, got him with a toe hold and had some back and forth. Conditioning felt bad.

Comp class, fasted training, just rolling. Went with a bunch of good blue belts, a white belt and a purple. Performance was good overall and I've been watching YT vids on the darce and working it a lot more now. Got it off a sprawl from the white belt today, first time getting the darce ever I think lol. Also got some tips on it from our BB last night during our small class. Got the ankle pick takedown against a heavyweight blue belt, taught a couple of people my sickle sweep...

Also started working a good half-butterly sweep one of the blues used effectively against me today. He gave me a thorough brief on it and I tried to use it against another guy but got passed very easily lol so I need to keep working it. Can't be complacent and keep doing the stuff I've been doing, but keep learning more and expanding while also tightening things up. Good class.

-Fasted; everything felt pretty good.

Bad night of training. Breathing/asthma was bad and my performance was really abysmal. Felt weak, sluggish and out of gas quickly even during drilling. I hate it when this happens because everything just feels so damn ineffective and labored. Well, can't always be a good night I guess.

So after a little over a month of intermittent fasting on a +20%/-20% calorie cycling, with some cheating here and there, my bodyweight remains around the same, maybe 1.5-2.0lbs heavier. Body composition appears to be improving with increased vascularity and visible abs (sometimes). It's still only been 5 weeks or so, so I'll really evaluate after a solid 12 weeks and maybe post progress pics. Strength gains are steady.
