BJJ, Strength & Air Traffic Control

Update

Still getting everything done, and body composition is looking better. Made some tweaks to training/diet schedule and am expecting good gains in the next few months into winter. On track to be no heavier than 173.5 by the end of September 2lbs/month after that.

Some of you know from FB but I found out from the FAA I'll be going to Long Island to work at NY Tracon/NY Approach, aka the busiest airspace in the country (and fattest paycheck, if you make it) and the location that the corny cheese fest known as Pushing Tin was made:

It'll be a big change going from a tower to a TRACON, especially this particular one. Cannot overstate how challenging it will be to get rated at this place but I can't wait to get started. Still waiting for a class date.

BJJ

Just a quick post because I'm in a rush hit the road. Today was my 500th recorded hour of BJJ training. This is a big milestone for me because it was the number I saw one particular person's log as being when they got their purple belt. I realize now that everyone is an individual and I have a long ways to go before purple, and yet I'm still super proud of getting this far. Made it just under my 3 year mark, and you can see my full history of every single training session in the link in my sig.

Anyway, today we went over a couple of ankle lock variations to an x-guard sweep when they stand up. Rolled with an older purple belt, a big white belt and a big blue belt. Got a ton of good arm bars and a triangle on the white belt, was pretty even with the older purple and got the baseball bat choke on him once, and maintained tops side control/mount against the big blue belt. Overall performed great and felt really good.

Training has been so-so in terms of consistency, and I've been missing way more than I would like. Average has been like 2 times per week lately which really sucks. Conditioning has been poor and strength in the gym is up. Weight is 174 which is a 6lb gain from when I started my bulk. Added too much fat for my liking so I'm switching back to LeanGains to the T to get shredded again while also working on my strength. Starting this on Monday and will be logging consistently again.

Was going to celebrate my 500th hour but I'm taking nutrition seriously so I will just celebrate with lots of sex with my MILF tonight.

Wow, congrats on the 500 mark. That is a huge achievement. Totally deserve that MILF sex

I saw "500 mark" and assumed you pulled five hundo. But I guess the BJJ thing is cool, too.

I love John Cusack, unconditionally, forever.

Thanks bro.

Oh man, few more years for that one. Goon will be pulling 600 before I get close to that.

Update..

Logging has taken a backseat although I am consistently blown away with my performance at BJJ lately. Things have been clicking into place a lot lately since I started at my new gym. Especially with regards to transitions and combinations. No longer am I attacking with one thing; it's ALWAYS multiple attacks chained together, sweeps directly into subs and subs into other subs or sweeps. Working from the feet is a lot better and overall I just feel like I've reached a next level. The automated speed and fluidity with which these attacks and transitions are coming is what has been the missing piece. It's not something I think about, rather am just on autopilot transitioning smoothly and always moving.

Strength is also going well; hit 215x8 on bench press yesterday with another rep probably in the tank. That's a good estimated 1RM and I'll be working with lower rep ranges and higher weights in the coming weeks. Probably won't resume logging for a while.

-Everything felt great besides that first set with 225. Failed the 6th rep and positive I could get 6 or 7 with a good hand off. Other sets were not to failure.

So I finally got my FAA class date---Going to the FAA Academy in OKC starting December 10th for Intro to Radar and TRACON classroom/simulator training. Marks a nice log title change and the end of unemployment!

Already made living arrangements in OKC and confirmed with Rafael Lovato Jr's school to train there for the 2 months I'll be staying. After OKC I'll be moving to Long Island to work at the New York TRACON (N90) and probably stay there until I retire. Most likely will be training at Serra BJJ on Long Island once I move.

Happy days!

BJJ (gi)

Went over a back take from open guard, guy on top. An old training partner taught it to me a couple years ago and today helped clean up more details. Rolled with a couple of white belts, a blue belt and a purple. Did well against all; got tons of taps on the whites, maintained dominance on the blue and outdid the purple as well although it was a very good match. Felt good today and weight is down.

Nah, don't have my eyes on a comp anytime soon. How about you?

I didn't. The guy from my gym you beat in gi at your last comp competed in expert no-gi and got second to a Brazilian who is apparently a black belt from somewhere. So that's good company for you to be in!

I started IF a few weeks ago; have been liking it so far.

Wow that's impressive. Was their match close?

I haven't talked to anyone that has tried IF and gone back to their previous eating habits yet :)

-Everything felt good, though the plates at my gym are hexagonal so for deads there is a slight deficit and each rep needs resetting slightly. Annoying and makes a noticeable difference in performance.

-In serious mode now for a BJJ tournament in Brooklyn 2nd week of December. Going to compete in men's blue belt lightweight again. Not sure of weight right now but I'll do the same weight cut I did last time to get under 162. Nutrition was abysmal this past weekend.

-Got over a short-term flu yesterday. Woke up yesterday morning feeling extremely weak and achey. Came home and slept from 9pm to almost 8am today which is ungodly unheard of for my insomniac ass. It felt so rejuvinating and I woke feeling so well-rested and all sickness gone.

Got pretty lean for the last tournament using Leangains and the Berardi weight-cut method. This was taken a couple hours before weighing in at 160.2. Pay no attention to the rubber ducky in the tub.
