BJJ Quotes

Paraphrasing but....

Jiu Jitsu is an art that you take in your hands and make what you want out of it-Andrea Galvao

I read the beginning of the thread again nd its not just about BJJ, so here is one o my favourite quotes, I am seriously close to having this as a tattoo -

"Out of every 100 men, 10 should not even be here, 80 are nothing but targets, 9 are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they the battle make." "Ah, but the ONE, ONE of them is a WARRIOR, and he will bring the others back."

Heraclitus 500 BC

I've always been partial to this "description" of BJJ that is posted in our academy...

White Belt-You are just learning the words. You do not always fully understand them, but you are starting to build a vocabulary. You can sometimes get your point across with a single word, or two strung together, but that is usually by accident.

Blue Belt-You have built up your word vocabulary, and are starting to use sentences. They are not always well punctuated, and are most often very simple. You are starting to notice the intricacies of those who write well, but are not yet able to match their abilities.

Purple Belt-You have a good understanding of how sentences are put together, and are finding ways to say the same thing using different approaches. You are working on proper grammar, and can now start to put together well structured paragraphs. Your individual style is also starting to come through.

Brown Belt-Your style and writing ability are very well established. You are more than capable of writing a book.

Black Belt-Poetry.

I really like this, the best part is there is nothing about green belt.

"I could sit in your arm bar and feel fine, I'm a steel mine, passing through your guard like its a yield sign"

What was BJ Penns quote about stevenson

"I was dropping elbows on him and I looked over and saw his wife crying and I thought..Ok..enough's enough..time to end this"

or something like that.

"There is one thing I cannot stress enough - DON'T STALL. This is the most important concept to remember when fighting from the closed guard." - BJ Penn

"Put him in your closed guard and don't let him out until you finish him." - Ralph Gracie

"Every time you play the closed guard, your goal should be to destroy your opponent." - Dave Camarillo

"It can be fun to learn all the new techniques fighters are putting out, but if you fail to focus on the fundamentals, your game will have massive holes." - BJ Penn

"In order to be effective from the bottom guard position, you must be able to capitalize on every opportunity to attack, sweep, or stand. If a window opens and you fail to quickly jump through, you'll miss a chance to eliminate your opponent's leverage and weight."

k I'll stop posting these...all from BJ's closed guard book ;\

"I could sit in your arm bar and feel fine, I'm a steel mine, passing through your guard like its a yield sign"

Um...yeah...although...if someone wanted to be technical about it, you can't actually "mine" steel. You make it. It's an alloy. So...yeah...that.

YOU can't mine steel, you probably can't hang out in an arm bar and feel fine, but then you are not a BJJ black belt yet.

Not that me creating something that rhymed on the fly in less than a second should be defended from literal scrutiny....but the point of saying "I could sit in your arm bar and feel fine, is to insinuate I'm tuffer than you and that your technique sucks.

Calling my self a steel mine would be supplementing the "I'm tuffer than you imagery", by illustrating my jiu-jitsu is hard to the core, or "Hardcore" if you will. I guess I could of said "I could sit in your arm bar and feel fine, I'm an iron mine using the alloy to make steel wich is a metephor that I'm hard down to the minerals I made with, and passing through your guard like its a yeild sign"

But that doesn't rhyme well and its...well, it's just fucking retarded. And given the fact that I only had half a second to think about it..I say I made the right choice :D

"the belt only covers two inches of your ass; you have to cover the rest yourself.
