BJJ or 'MMA'?

If you don't plan to get too serious (lifelong commitment) about either, then just go to which ever class you enjoy more. If you're just trying to get into shape, I would think that the MMA classes would be more conditioning intensive. But if you want to build on a hobby that you can do well into your 50's, then I would just stick with BJJ. I've dabbed in a little bit of both, along with wrestling and judo, and I've become content with just progressing my pure BJJ game, which will compliment my MMA game if I ever decide to get back into fighting. The bonus to just focusing on BJJ first, is that you learn really solid grappling fundamentals. MMA will usually give you more of a "crash-course" on grappling, just the stuff you really need to know to make it through a fight.
