If you don't plan to get too serious (lifelong commitment) about either, then just go to which ever class you enjoy more. If you're just trying to get into shape, I would think that the MMA classes would be more conditioning intensive. But if you want to build on a hobby that you can do well into your 50's, then I would just stick with BJJ. I've dabbed in a little bit of both, along with wrestling and judo, and I've become content with just progressing my pure BJJ game, which will compliment my MMA game if I ever decide to get back into fighting. The bonus to just focusing on BJJ first, is that you learn really solid grappling fundamentals. MMA will usually give you more of a "crash-course" on grappling, just the stuff you really need to know to make it through a fight.
