BJJ in the street

Plenty of ways to avoid getting slammed, specially by non-grapplers.

Also a lot of BJJers seem unaware of one reality that doesn't exist in MMA or BJJ: Headbutts.

If I end up in somebody's guard in a streetfight, I am headbutting the holy hell out of them.

Be prepared to fight if you end up on bottom, but it is a terrible idea to plan to go there on purpose.

During an argument a few months ago my wife tried to smack me so I arm dragged her and took her back.

My first instinct was to sink the RNC but I decided that would be taking it too far

pulling guard should be your last option of defense, say what you want about 1v1 fights but if your on the street anything can happen, and if you dont think a friend will kick your head if you look like your gonna do a number on his buddy your sadly mistaken

Like you say, though, awareness is key. If I use a shins-in-biceps type of guard, reaching me with any kind of strike will be very difficult for my opponent. And again, an average Joe can be swept very quickly.

my friend got taken down in a street fight cause he was beating the shit out of the guy on the feet. my friend pulled guard half way down and used one hand to grab the guys adam's apple and was using his other hand to keep the guys arm away. the guy elevated to slam my friend just got enough space to stand up.
