BJ Penn Unsure About His Future

Maybe hel'll be smart and take a fight at LW if he decides to come back

for sure but i think at this point he wouldn't be competitive at any division. time to hang em up and be with his family. bj is a legend and he has nothing more to prove.

Retire, you're done BJ. You're not motivated, you're not serious and you're hurting your legacy

I don't agree at all with the people saying retire. Even with his lack of will to train hard or stick with a good camp, he's still a good fighter. At WW he's still borderline top 10 and at LW he is definitely top 10, possibly even top 5. That's just regular BJ with his talent and skill level even without good cardio and his other shortcomings.

In the off chance he gets with a good S&C coach again and/or a good camp, he shoots up a bit more and may even contend for the title again - though we all realize he's not likely to stick with that level of commitment for long. Regardless, he's a still a good fighter who can beat most LW's and a good chunk of WW's.

Are you guys forgetting the only LW fighter BJ's lost to in years is Edgar? And most people feel he's actually 1-1 in that matchup. Do you want every talented 34 year old fighter who is still top 10 but probably wont win a title (or win again) to retire? Should Edgar get ready to retire in a couple years soon since he's 31 and likely wont win a belt again?
Should Maynard (33)?
Should Koscheck (35)?
Should Fitch (34)?
Should Machida (34)?
Should Pierce (32)?
Should Simpson (38)?
Should Maia (35)?
Should Cormier (33) if he gets a title shot and loses?
Should Glover (33) if he gets a title shot and loses?
Should Barnett (35)?
Should Bigfoot (33)?
Should Rashad (33)?

Almost all of those guys wont even see a title fight again, let alone win one. Should they all just hang 'em up? Screw that. I like watching BJ and a lot of those guys fight. Hell, I'm still wishing Genki Sudo would make a comeback. I want to see my favorite fighters as many times as they can.

I'd prefer to see them fight as long as they want to and aren't getting punch drunk, etc. If they want to fight on then I say fight on. Because, whether I like them or hate them, I know they are competitors and one day they will be retired and they will miss getting into that cage. So they should compete as long as they want to and can at a pro level.

BJ is not a top 10 WW and he isn't even close really. Rory was not in the top 10 and he dominated BJ. BJ has only beaten Hughes at WW and while the first win was stuff of legend at the time, it doesn't have much relevance now. I'm not sure if he'd even be a top 10 at LW. I just can't see him beating guys like Jim Miller or TJ Grant. He just isn't the fighter he used to be. Guys are too well rounded with better cardio.

He still has a hell of a chin though and a lot of heart. He's still never been dropped in MMA which is amazing considering all the great fighters he's been against and Diaz and Rory were battering him standing. I'd like to see him come back for some kind of "legend fight" at LW or WW. A rematch with Gomi at 163 lbs or something would be fucking awesome.

It would have to be at 155 or even 145 if he really cleaned up his diet and training.

If he really has to think about it he should just retire. If his heart isn't in it 100% it will just end badly.

He needs to just retire and walk away, he has nothing left to prove.

He hasn't had any motivation since he had kids. I remember one of the pre-fight videos where he was in single-dad mode and I just knew he was done. His focus is on being a good father to his kids.

He gives zero fucks about fighting these days.

I've been a fan since he came onto the scene. It's time for him to retire or go to 155. He is a legend and one of the all time greats.

I don't see what there is to think about. he's clearly done, there's nothing left to prove and he can't win fights. time to stop being a heavy bag and just go away
