this is just so wrong lol his level of talent is through the roof compared to almost everyone in any sport his work ethic and gameplanning are well below standard for the times. bj is still the best boxer and bjj practitioner the lw division has seen to date and his wrestling isnt half bad , but when your opponent is bigger stronger faster its hard to keep up with just talent. its the old adage hard work beats talent when talent refuses to work hard.
Although this is a great post, you disregard the whole Frankie Edgar episode. BJ was bigger and stronger than Frankie, who had the speed edge. It's not like BJ got wrestled or held down, they were standing, exchanging and landing on both sides.
BJ never really hurt Frankie, in 50 total minutes of fight. Sure he had some moments, he countered some shot and slipped others. Yet he came short not because his opponent was bigger or stronger, but because BJ couldn't adapt.
He showed us a glimpse of adaptation against Jon Fitch and again came short. Sure that fight was against a bigger, stronger wrestler, I'll grant you that. Again, it was BJ's mistake to look for a fight against a top WW! Don't act like the UFC were pressuring BJ to call out Fitch, he did it to himself.
Once again, his pride demanded that he try to show the smallest, talented man can win against the bigger grinder but, sadly, this is not 2004 anymore. I put the entire blame on Matt Hughes, what was he thinking running into BJ's punch and making him think he could hold his own at WW? :icon_neut
