I like those shorts he has with the black belt

but is it poor taste to wear them if you not a black belt?

To anyone that doesn't train, Perfectly acceptable.

To people that do train, they will either to your face or in their mind be thinking douche.

I always thought those shorts looked like a kids halloween outfit.

I think it depends on the circumstance. If you are wearing them to train or compete, bad. If you are wearing them as a fan, fine.

I don't know about taste, but I would expect to get called on it if you are wearing them to train (at a place where actual ranked bjj guys train) or compete.

I think it's in completely poor taste for anyone over the age of 12 to wear them period.

LoL, you guys trip me out.

I know a guy that has them and he trains in them (he was a blue belt at the time). Everyone in the school knows him and what rank he is, but it didnt matter.

Its like wearing a Tapout shirt...eventually someone will challenge your manhood

there are plenty of places that make ranked bjj shorts... look for them get one in your belt rank

I have them. My fiance bought them for me. I ripped the belt off and they are my favorite shorts to train in. If your not a black belt don't wear them with the black belt on them.

There's a real belt there? Aren't these the ones he sports when he fights?

I thought the belt was just an image...

the pair that I saw it was actually part of the shorts, like a coloring inside the shorts.

Putting a blackbelt on ain't kosher unless you've earned it, whether it's an actual belt or just a placquard on a pair of shorts. If they're the ACTUAL BJ Penn shorts, and say his name on them, then it's pretty clear they're just "fanwear", so wearing them to train would be ok, but not to compete.

That said, I do have a pair of "ranked" shorts that I wear sometimes for nogi competitions... But they reflect my actual rank...

honestly, it just looks very tool-ish. like wearing a long tee with the image of a ripped guy in speedos on it.

I personally couldn't wear them, I just wouldn't feel right training with a black belt on when I'm not one. And I wouldn't buy them to wear around town either

i'd love to have those but i ain't putting them on until i get my actual blackbelt.

and that might take a while.
