UFC Hall of Famer B.J. Penn is again in trouble with the law.

Penn was arrested on Jan. 23 in Honokaa, Hawaii, on suspicion of DUI after police received a reckless driver complaint, Hawaii County Police Department spokesperson Denise Laitinen confirmed to MMA Fighting. Penn was later released pending an investigation. Laitinen declined to provide additional details on Penn’s arrest and blood-alcohol level.

Penn was not immediately reachable for comment, and a Penn family rep, Gary Levitt, did not immediately return a request for comment.

Word of Penn’s arrest comes after a video surfaced on Monday that appeared to show a belligerent Penn being put in a police car.

This, unfortunately, is most likely the way things will continue to go for Penn.

He can't (or, shouldn't I should say) fight anymore, he wouldn't be a good coach, and he's not articulate enough for a desk job in the MMA field.

It goes like this for some fighters. Being a fighter, in a lot of ways, is what the term "institutionalized" means in The Shawshank Redemption. Sometimes, once these fighters careers are over and they're no longer in the limelight, they keep sinking further and further into the quicksand of their own poor choices.

I say these things hoping that I'll be proven wrong, as Penn is in my top ten favorite fighters of all time.

Nik Lentz did an interview with Helwani ages ago when he was scheduled to fight BJ Penn, basically saying BJ had been trying to harass him on social media and even went to the lengths of messaging/shit talking Nik Lentz’ wife as well.

I think regardless of drink or drugs, BJ is just a POS human being and hasn’t had to become a normal member of society because of his privileged upbringing.

If you’re a shit person I don’t think rehab or help is going to change that fact, he’ll always be getting into trouble.

luckily im an even bigger Fedor fan so that counter balances this kind of stuff because Fedor is such a kind and wonderful human being. Maybe there is some CTE kind of stuff going on with him. All those shots to his iron jaw and head may have shook some shit around in there and at 42 it isnt like hes a kid anymore. He did look to be in good shape in those cuffs, so thats nice to see I guess.

Haole really means foreigner, but it more commonly used for white. His dad is white. It sounds like him and the guy got into a verbal confrontation while BJ was drunk. I think he said we are all Ns because he was having an argument that he felt moved racial and the dude was baiting him. I didn't like how the guy said, "Hungry hungry Hawaiian". Fuck that guy. Whatever the case, BJ shouldn't be driving under the influence, hope he goes to jail, is forced to go into rehab, and recovers for the sake of his daughters. From what I've heard from others in Hawaii, it's where i'm from, BJ has a pretty serious drug problem. It's not uncommon in Hawaii. I've had friends and family members become drug addicts. It's some sad shit.
