price chart: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin/

do your research on bitcoin, google and youtube. its more than currency, its decentralized currency with peer to peer transactions (no middleman banks), the tech blockchain is revolutionary

I can't find 2010 on the chart.

What did 1 btc cost when it first started?

And what are all those btc companies in the market section? What do they do?

If you bought $100 of bitcoin when it first came out in 2010 and held onto it, you would have 75 million dollars today.

I have a friend who was right on the verge of investing, I remember him telling me about it right when it came out before I heard about it anywhere else, but he decided against it. He's on suicide watch today

How much was when it came out? Even if it was 1 cent, it would be $24 million now. Wasn't it like 5 cents though when it came out?

andreas explains bitcoin as good as anyone, he's been on rogan a bunch of times:

They were giving them away when they first came out and nobody wanted them.

They were giving out 10 THOUSAND bitcoins to each person who wanted it, but only a few did. Back then, if you wanted 100,000 bitcoins, they probably would've given it to you for FREE.

I made a lot of money, probably more than anyone else on this forum, but I'm still very weary of exactly what the tax laws are and it might come back and bite me in the ass if I revealed how much I made.

It wasn't an investment for me. I was just lucky. Never knew how much they'd go up.

it had no value when it first came out but yeah it was probably like 1-5 cents at some point early on.

bitcoin adoption is a real thing and its slowly being an accepted currency, online stores like overstock accpet it and you can use it in stores in japan and places even in the US and worldwide

What would 10k and 100k bitcoin be worth today?

Why were they giving them away?

Because it wasn't worth shit. Nobody had a clue how much it would take off. They just wanted them circulated. Or rather, him. The owner wanted them circulated.

Man, another one of these needs to come around.

What's the deal with the eretheum thing? Could someone make a killing off of that in a few years like btc?

You're required to pay capital gains taxes. If you hold longer than 1 year you pay 0 to 25%, depending on your tax bracket.

In the US at least.

Bitcoin has a black mark because the media has shit on it for years, while Ethereum is the new hotness. Corporations are investing in it in many ways. It's currently $17b in market cap, but economists are calling it disruptive and saying it could easily top $500b or more.

The best comparison I can make for its potential impact on society- no, not just as a currency- is the effect the internet had on the market in the 90s. If this happens, it means the current price is nothing. There would easily still be 50x gains to be had.

Source?

Are you going to invest in ethereum?

I just don't buy into this new Etherum thing. I haven't seen anything that accepts anything other than Bitcoin.

Might be a good short term investment and there's an opportunity to make a shit load of money in a very short period of time, but I just don't see it taking over Bitcoin.
