I'm old school I guess. I can't stand making established characters something different for the sake of diversity. I would rather new characters and I would support them if it wasn't obviously just for diversity's sake. A good character is a good character. Batman was never gay. Bond is a womanizing white Brit. Superman always loved Lois Lane and Spiderman always loved MJ. But f you want a new Green Lantern, plenty of options there.

The Batman legacy is largely just an unrequited gay love story between Batman and an insane clown.

Back when IMDb had a comment section, there was a thread that was about Batman the Animated series.

The writers created Harley Quinn for the show.

When exploring Joker, they saw a thin guy that dressed well and was obsessed with Batman.

The writers felt it was like the episode of Seinfeld where people assumed he was gay because he was thin, dressed well, and always hung out with George.

So, Harley Quinn was created to give Joker a love interest.

That was only in the animated movie and they got skewered for that. Bruce Timm is hardcore for Bruce/Barbara. Does it in every project and every timeline. He even had her get pregnant with his kid and miscarry while still kinda in a thing with Dick Grayson. This was in Batman Adventures, geared toward the younger audiences.

If you want gay characters, make gay characters. It feels artificial when you take already established characters, and make them something else just to hit the check boxes on a Social Justice list.

I'm mixed, I wouldn't mind seeing some Asian leads in non Kung fu related movies for a change, but I'd be mad if they took, say, Captain America, and made him Asian as opposed to actually making a character. That level of pandering feels demeaning and lazy.
