Looks like I’m in the minority but I think Jim Carrey is genuinely funnier than Bill Murray.

Honestly I think Carrey's early blockbusters are a bit too silly for their own good, loved them when I was 14-15 but these days I'd clearly take stuff like Ghostbusters.

"Serious" film wise I think its closer with stuff like Groundhog Day, Lost in Translation, Rushmore against The Truman Show and Enteral Sunshine.

My biological father told me he bumped in Bill Murray in a store once and said Bill was an obnoxious asshole.

And my bio father was a world class asshole, so he would know.

Carrey is the better performer by a landslide imo.

Bill got some major hits under his belt but I wonder who he would be without Ivan Reitman and Harold Reimous setting the table and handing him scripts on a silver platter.

The main difference is that Carrey still doesn't get recognition for his "serious" work. Which he should, I mean: Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine, Man on the Moon...nuff said. Murray's been getting his flowers for a while in that regard and I think he's gotten to work on better projects because of it.

I say Murray cause the odds are it's going to be a better movie but Carrey's got chops.

Cuban Pete scene alone is funnier than any comedy movie produced in last 10 years.

Grew up with more Murry and SNL was staple for us. Much luv for Carey as well. ILC was a decent show and Fire Marshal Bob was awesome. I can still easily watch Pet Detective.

I agree totally. We think the same on many topics.

I liked a few of carey's performances but they kind of got old after some time. He takes being loud and big to the extreme. He's also the best at it but i can only take so much of it.

Bill is one of the great comedic actors of all time. He has more range and is more consistently funny. Especially his wes anderson roles in the second half of his career put him well ahead of carey for me.
