Bill Maher and Rula Jebreal Go at it regarding Islam.

I love how saying MAher is Jew makes one anti semit. I wish there was a list if all the things that makes one anti semit. I bet that list will be very very long

Is that what YOU love? Really? Hmm. That's so interesting. You know what I love? I love how you were in such a rush to post this that you couldn't even be bothered to proofread your post before submitting it. You were in such a rush to enter what you in your warped mind, probably thought was some logical, morally superior post or more probably troll that you couldn't take ten seconds to check your spelling and grammar. Lazy thinker. Lazy writer.

Getting to your point, though, ID'ing someone as "a Jew" w/o prompt and saying someone only believes or does something because he's Jewish - which is what you did by bringing it up a few pages back - smells like antisemitism*. Why bring up the fact he has Jewish heritage at all? To be fair, maybe you're not antisemitic, but when you post something greatly stereotypical like the equivalent of "Jews...they're always hating on the muslims", be prepared to be called antisemitic.

If you're going to talk like an antisemite, better brace yourself to be thought of as and be called an antisemite.

* And by the way, because in having similar discussions on this topic online before, I've come across the occassional overly semantic smartass - and you seem like the type to try this - who tries to redefine "antisemitic" from its conventionally accepted meaning (anti-Jewish) to prejudice against any Semitic peoples (which'd incl. peoples descended from tribes on, around the Arabian, Sinai, and Somali peninsulas) let me pre-emptively say "don't try that shit, here, either."

Lool I made it clear his background and upbringing plays part in his opinion. Saying he is an atheist now and pretend he suddenly has no Jewish ties is laughable. I know what Jews and Muslims really think of each other. Scare tactics of calling people anti semis to shut them up ain't gonna work here.

The Notion that "Jews" hate Islam is rather odd since Jews are in general in great favor of immigration of Muslims to Europe.

Well, then...being the Maher biographer you clearly are...you know that Maher wasn't raised in a Jewish household - not that it would matter if he was. But since you brought up his background, yes, his mother was Jewish, but his father was Catholic and if anything, Maher was raised Catholic until he was about thirteen. Then his father stopped taking him to church and effectively left Church b/c of its position on birth control. So if anything Maher was a lapsed Catholic for most of his life, then became an atheist Catholic apostate. But you're not focusing on his Catholic heritage which his upbringing was much more steeped in. No, you're focusing on his Jewish heritage, making unwarranted, conspiratorially negative conclusions about him based on it. You know who else does that? Antisemites.

I'm not trying to censor you, dummy. I'm trying to get you to see why people might think you're an antisemite. Your continued obsession with his heritage, with Jewish heritage in general, the language you're using like "Jewish ties", "a Jew" screams antisemitism. If you want people to stop thinking you are a, calling you an antisemite, then stop talking like one. If you want people to stop thinking you are a, calling you a duck, then stop quacking. That simple. FYI, while context matters, when someone uses a preposition when describing someone's ethnicity, it can look markedly more prejudiced ("he's a black", "he's a Jew" looks, sounds much worse than "he's black", "he's Jewish").

It was intellectually dishonest to claim you can be openly homosexual in Gaza where Hamas has declared it a crime punishable by death. Besides that she is completely spot on when it comes to US foreign policy and the coddling of the Saudi regime. Wahabism spread by Saudi is behind 99% of all the things wrong in the middle east.

When I watch a "highly-regarded" person like Jebreal trying to defend practitioners of the religion of Islam it reminds me of watching some "highly-regarded" Creationist trying to defend that theory.

You realize that if this really represents the best arguments their side has there is absolutely no point in considering the possible legitimacy of their side's position any further.

Lots of anti semitism in here. It's funny that being half jewish invalidates what Maher is saying, but the fact she is a muslim doesn't come into play. Funny how anti jew hatred works

Ha ha yeah as if being a Jew somehow invalidates islam being the full retard of religions.

Hey! Get your reason and logic out of here!

Christianity is largely responsible for the values of democracy and freedoms we experience in North America.

Christian hatred is truly the most baffling world-wide phenomenon. Completely nonsensical.
Your problem is that you have absolutely no clue about history. If you did, you'd know that there was a time when Christianity was in charge. It was called the Dark Ages, and it sucked. Then there was the Enlightenment, and with secular governments the floor began to rise.
Keeping Christianity separated from the state is largely responsible for the values of democracy and freedoms you experience in North America. It's a shame you know nothing about your own history to not understand that.

I hate Islam, but man, what a babe.

Total babe, esp for over 40, granted. She takes care of herself and good for her, but her "look..." verbal tick is grade A hard-on softener. She said it what seemed to me, as I was watching, like 10 or 12 times (probably only 5 or 6 but still way too much).

And "look..." is one of the most condescending verbal ticks I think I've ever heard. Saying it once or twice is one thing...but when you say it 5 or 6 times, it starts to mean "look, stupid...". She also makes same conflation Affleck, Aslan make.

Besides this, she wouldn't shut up. She just would not stop talking. She was sitting in between a senator and a four star general, and she easily, easily talked more than both of them combined. And if Maher hadnt cut her off, she'd still be talking.

Bill Maher and especially his good friend Sam Harris are apologists for Western imperialism. If you listen to them speak over and over the tune is "Islam is this set of practices that is anti-woman, anti-human, violent etc. at its core". Not that I disagree with everything they have to say about violence from the Other, they're just big fat cheerleaders for Western planes to fly over and drop bombs on people because some of them are the bogeymen of western liberal democratic ideals.

Are you referring to The Crusades and The Spanish Inquisition? The final remnants of those catastrophes ended in the early 1800s with the majority of attrocities committed centuries earlier. These also are terrible times and indeed I need to study more about them. Christianity of the last 200 years has been peaceful. Both the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition were largely carried out by the Catholic Church (who are in mainstream Christianity regarded as almost an entirely different entity [particularly post-Luther]).

Conversely, there are currently over 100 active Islamic terrorist organizations today:

Julia; two questions for you.

First, who are the Western planes/drones trying to drop the bomb on: a. innocent Muslims or b. the terrorists and insurgents who are killing innocent Muslims and others?

Second, who is it who kills and abuses more innocent Muslims: a. Western planes/drones or b. extremist Islamists, terrorists and insurgents? It's not even close.

By the way, if you ever get around to watching an episode of RTWBM all the way through, you'll probably hear him bitch and moan about our troops stationed abroad. Maher's no imperialist.

Between 2003-2011 half a million Iraqis died violent deaths due to the US invasion and occupation, according to National Geographic. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2013/10/131015-iraq-war-deaths-survey-2013/

You live in a fantasy land if you believe that Muslim extremists, ISIS, Al Qaeda, Iran, Iraq under Saddam were as efficient as the US military at destroying men, women, children non-enemy non-combatants.

Bill Maher probably doesn't even know how hard he's pushing state propaganda, executive decrees for more bombs to be dropped because "We'll really wipe out those Muslim extremists this time!"
