Tito was the UFC for a significant period of time.

VItor was not.

Definitely Tito.

Hard to admit it, since I don't like Tito. But yeah, you're definitely right.

Tito is probably top 5 in terms of UFC stars. He was the face of the UFC when it started to get more mainstream. I remember him being the main dude in one of the first UFC games.

To be honest I hadn't started watching live UFC until about UFC 87 and I already knew who Tito Ortiz was.

Tito, easily. Vitor was better for longer, but he was never THE MAN.

Completely agree. As much as Zuffa tries to bury him now, he was a big star for them. I'd say he was, for a time, their only star. From the late 90's basically until TUF, Tito was the only MMA fighter most people knew.

And they didn't even have to ban him ..... then unban him

Tito has a major role in the survival of the ufc pre tuf.

Tito and its not even close

Both had big impacts but Tito's was bigger than Belfort's. The original bad boy/heel (for my wrestling fanboys out there). Tito made GNP cool (As did Mark Coleman). At one point Tito was top dog but his weakness was Randy and Chuck (which back in those days weren't a bad thing). If Tito was training SERIOUS stand up, he'd be a better fighter IMO. Never use to like him when I was growing up, but I always respected him. We may make fun of Tito for his excuses but that dude has endured alot through his career and kept on going.

Might not be a UFC today if not for Tito.

You guys are right about Tito carrying the company back in the day, but Vitor has him on longevity.

I think even though Tito held gold and defended his belt a fair number of times, it was so long ago, and he went out on such a string of losses that he feels less relevant today. Whereas Vitor has been fighting for 20? years and he's still a top ten guy.

Great thread idea.
I pick Tito. He was the first showman that really made an impact.
