I posted this video in another thread but I thought it needed it's own thread. John and Josh discuss the ref Mark Smith and the commentating in that situation. It's time stamped

Cliffs
-Ref Mark Smith should've never mentioned to the commissioner or the doctor it was going to be a DQ, let alone in front of Aljo
-Aljo started milking it when the ref said this
- Josh and John think the commentators need to be careful what they say with no fans, it influences the fighters
-Josh thinks Aljo basically deserves an Oscar, fans won't want to watch him now
-Big John said the ref should've called the fight without talking about a DQ, ruled a NC or took a point and went to the scorecards...resulting in a majority draw...
-They both talked about Ray Longo's team milking these situations in the past with Chris Weidman vs Moose...Worked against them last time...

Smith was shit last night and is slowly entering Herb Dean territory, but that was all Yan's fault. That said, Aljo won an Oscar last night after Yan fucked up. It was kind of embarrassing, honestly.

And who wants to listen to BJM and Thomson? These guys are absolute shit as commentators on Belloltor. Some of the worst I've ever heard.

Big John should do more of this stuff, hes good at it, as a conventional color commentator he doesnt really contribute with/add much though.

You’re not going to possibly compare the significance of the strikes.

This isn’t Karate, it’s not scored on volume. Damage takes precedence over anything in striking.

Yan landed harder, took Sterling down at will, scored knockdowns and staggered him multiple times.

Don’t be disingenuous, you’re only harming the sport.

I dropped the ball, fixed...

Big John said count round 4 (almost over) minus 1 point for Yan, would've been a majority draw
Thanks.

Ya it’s tough. Diego Sanchez also specifically asked if he would win if he couldn’t continue. And I remember Herb Dean being blunt as fuck about what will happen if Gracie couldn’t continue (v Frank Shamrock about a million years ago.) And I believe it was one of about 10 different sub-stories in the Mousasi v Weidman stoppage as well.

So while I think BJM is probably technically right, there is plenty of precedent both ways.

Thanks for the cliffs, sir.

I was thinking it would be ruled a NC? but they must have thought it was deliberate. Usually, you get a warning first before a point deduction. However, when it is a kick or knee to a downed opponent than its not a warning which makes sense. Or else everyone would do that one kick or knee to the head to win fights.

This. Who landed more is not in the scoring criteria, despite what many here may think

Yea of course, they're seeing what everyone else saw.

Aljo was acting. It's clear as day. The nuthuggers will ignore this but it's true.

If he knew he would get a no contest instead of a title he would have been back on his feet in 30 seconds.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I agree with Big John.

Responding to the cliffs, if Big John thinks that should've been a NC and not a DQ, then I'm glad he's retired because that'd just be awful, objectively incorrect officiating.
If the guy that's losing gets fouled it should be a NC. Had he been winning prior to the shot then I'd agree with a dq. If the shot is extremely unlikely to affect the outcome (which is an L for Aljo) then a NC is a gift in itself.

If someone who hits as hard as @%@ Yan egregiously fouls you by holding your neck and letting a full force knee fly into your head, why in the world should you even be allowed to continue?

Who here is arguing Yan doesn't hit hard?

You run it back, this is common sense.
