It's pretty simple though. He lifted Robbie's arm to see if he was conscious . Robbie responded. 99/100 times herb doesn't miss that. He missed this one. That's the issue.

Then lift it twice, or a third time. Though Ref does need to stay out of the way too. Only Herb can explain why he felt the need to call it. I am guessing, Herb saw the arm drop and thought Robbie was out so When checking for Response expected Robbie to be out or do more and called it. So to reduce chances of recurring Refs need better training for detecting out fighters and possibly fighters can get better guidance how to signal clearer though a thumbs up seems pretty good signal to me.

The bulldog choke on the chin is actually a blood choke. It also hurts like hell, but it didn't look like Robbie was going to tap due to pain.

Lifting the arm should have been emough with the response Robbie gave. Herb fucked up my guess from getting to excited . I always wonder how much Rogan and crew screaming he's out effects a refs decision. If herb stopped it right after that arm drop it would have been better in my opinion . Still a mistake but he would have more of an argument. The moment he checked Robbie's arm and Robbie responded is where herb dropped the ball.

To me those situations are not the same. One you don't have the ref doing a check on Chiesa . The choke was under the chin as well. Different than the bulldog choke. It's still an early stoppage non the less but different then the fighter signaling to the ref he is perfectly ok than it getting stopped. I'm not sure why you can't grasp that. Also it doesn't matter how many experts pot videos about the choke askrens had on Robbie. No one knows how that was going to end. And now we never will. A real fighter would ask to do it over if there was any controversie, but Ben couldn't say NO fast enough to a rematch.
