Imo, Chandler doesn’t have a chance in hell against Islam. He gasses and wilts, coupled with Islam’s length and ground game, bad matchup

Stylistically, Chandler is a tougher fight for Makhachev than anyone else in the top 5. He's got the wrestling, good submission defense, and heavy hands. Statistically, he's more likely than Hooker to land that lucky punch. I don't think Islam or Khabib for that matter could control him so easily on the mat.

Chandler's biggest weaknesses though is his glass jaw which someone like Gaethje could easily exploit.

His TDD isn’t Jose Aldo level. I still remember how everyone thought a D-1 wrestler like Gaethje was going to be Khabib’s toughest challenge and it turned out to be one of his easier fights. Like Khabib, Islam’s wrestling is miles above Hooker’s and most wrestlers in MMA.

And what makes it harder to prepare against Islam is he doesn’t use the traditional single/double leg TDs like Khabib. The judo throws from the clinch are going to send Dan flying.

MMA fighters are fuckin dumb and still dont realize that this is just as much entertainment as it is sport. If people dont care about you, you aren't getting shit.

If it wasnt for Khbabi no one would give a shit about Islam

You either win until you cant be denied (Ex. Hollaway, Khabib) but this doesn't always work (Ex.Ferguson, Edwards)
You gain popularity and are gifted a title shot (Lesnar, Hardy, etc.)
Or you keep winning until people care about you. Typically happens when you get your signature win.

Totally agree with this. They've signed contracts to fight for a certain dollar amount so why get so fussy over the rank of their opponent? Even if the opponent isn't as strong as them, they can improve their own standing by dominating them. MMA fans add to the problem by propagating that it "doesn't mean anything" if you haven't yet beat a top-X ranked opponent...even if those who beat high ranked opponents do so by slim split decisions lol

Islam has never fought a higher ranked opponent despite asking for one so often. Opponents used the "it doesn't make sense" excuse when he wasn't ranked high.
