I knew Islam would be the favorite but wow he's a 5:1 or more on some sites.

I can't see any other LW being such a strong favorite against Hooker - even if Oliveira, Chandler (rematch), Gaethje or Dustin were fighting Hooker I can see them being a -200 maybe even -300 favorite at but not in the -500 to -600 range like Islam.

not bad

Who else on the roster do you think would be such a huge favorite against Hooker?
it's the context around it too though

Hooker just coming off a fight with a small training camp as a replacement.

But yeah, hard to see Hooker being this much of an underdog again

Yeah the circumstances add a bit, but even in similar circumstances I cant see anyone else being such a favorite against Hooker...maybe -300 at the highest levels.

Looking at this I think Islam would be the betting favorite against any LW on the roster.

His style is designed to win rounds. He'd be the favorite over every LW because his path to victory is more diverse. Decision/Sub (small tko chance)

Where as his opponents will never beat him in a decision, they can only KO him or sub him.

Rough, but seems about right. Tall order for Captain Hooker.

Hooker is a tougher matchup, surprised RDA was given better odds since wrestlers have always been his kryptonite.

Hooker at least has the power in his hands, and step-in knee, to put Islam out.

Islam breaks down everyone in the division not named Chandler or Oliveira. Chandler has the best shot against him, but Oliveira has a good shot as well.

I'm sad for Hooker, imo he only has a small chance of catching Islam off a transition, especially without a full camp preparing wrestling. If he had a full camp it would be closer, Islam is the sort of guy that you want a solid preparation for, and I reckon if CKB had more time to study Islam they could find some small holes in his striking.

@Dreyga2000 I'm excited to see what Eugene cooks up gameplan wise for this one. If I had to bet it would be relatively similar to his gameplan against Chandler, except obviously way less power for Islam compared to Chandler, but a more reserved pressure striker. If I was Hooker I would come out in more of a bladed stance than usual, cause Islam loves his bodylocks and trips, so if you don't let him on your torso you have a shot. Fast footwork is the key in this one for Dan. Hooker should be pumping the step in jab.

That being said, I'm not convinced his jab is good enough for that. He has a pretty good jab when he is moving slowly forward, but I haven't seen the sort of in and out jab that I would want to see against a guy you don't want to close or exit distance slowly against in Islam.

What do you think?

Oliveira or Chandler would be closer but they'd still be the underdog:)
But what if DoBronx finish Poirier in a devastating fasgion, but Islam wins a boring decision against Hooker.
This would change the odds don't you think?

I think Hooker is a bit of a can, the way he got besmirched by Barboza and Chandler, arguably lost a decision to Felder....Felder and Hooker were never top 10 caliber guys in the UFC, they just ended up with those rankings. Hookers biggest win was catching a fighter better than him in Burn's, who has been super overrated at 170lbs. Nevermind Hookers terrible run at 145. The war he had with Poirier was more Poirier sinking to his level than Hooker showing great potential.

That said, you might be right about Islam. I favor him vs everyone at 155 in the UFC besides maybe Chandler, Oliveira, Gaethje and Poirier....even then I think he would be even or slightly favored vs them too. The reality is...Islam hasn't beat nobody great besides maybe Tsarukyan and even then, the verdict is out on Tsarukyan still but he has an aura and momentum where as all these other guys have shown themselves to be beatable on many occasions where Islam really hasnt "sure he got caught by Martins".

Still Hooker is like a top 15 random in the UFC ij my opinion.
