Better Cardio: Nick Diaz or GSP?

Diaz could very well catch GSP, if Georges had a hard time passing condits guard, then Nicks guard is going to be a nightmare, Nick is a very high level jiu jitsu black belt, the way he instantly took Condits back as soon as the fight hit the ground,

Both guys are solid. I would give a slight edge to GSP, only because he likes to fight at a much higher pace. Diaz is pretty content plodding around trying to throw 1-3 punch combo's. His style really requires less cardio than GSP's. GSP is exploding the whole fight, getting takedowns, GNP, footwork, punches, kicks, the whole gauntlet.

Diaz, but it doesn't really matter, neither man will gas in a 25 minute fight, now if they did a 1 hour fight, like Royce and Sakuraba did it might matter.

I actually think GSP could push the pace enough to make Diaz uncomfortable. But for all intensive purposes cardio / gastank should be a tie.

Cardio won't play a role really. Diaz will be dominated like never before.

Lol... Condit has a better and more active guard then nick... They we instantly took his back and did absolutely nothing with it after getting outstruck for 24 minutes...

Havent seen GSP talk about his triathalon work. GSP by about 20 miles. It's part of why Nick doesn't get finished. If you're not tired, you don't wilt.

Anyway, that won't matter too much in the fight as they dont have to run a marathon before or after they fight.

imo Nick Diaz

GSP doesn't fight a constant or hard pace that's why he can go 5 rounds easily. He nullifies fighters or makes them fight at his pace.
When he was forced to fight (against Condit) he got tired. But those were 5 hard rounds of fighting.

He still has fantastic cardio and I don't think that this fight will come down to cardio.

Did you see his last fight with Condit? I would call that "hard pace".

What happened to iron man cardio in the Condit fight?

Oh yeah it was a fight and not a race.

Diaz' fight cardio isn't exceptional, but if they were swimming riding bikes or running I'd give Diaz the edge.

In a 5 round fight, I think they are fairly evenly matched in cardio.

Now as far as long distance training, Diaz is at the world level. GSP could not keep up with him on a bike, running, or swimming. Maybe running.

there is a complete misunderstanding of "cardio" around here. Cardio in a fight depends on how efficient a fighter is. GSP explained this once very accurately. If you are more efficient than your opponent, you don't spend as much energy as the other guy and your cardio seems to be better, which is not necesarrily the case.
Every day in the gym, I beat guys with better cardio. GSP said that his thai box coach smokes and has terrible cardio but when they spar he beats the shit out of everybody, because he's more efficient in what he does than his opponents.
A fight is not a triatlon, or iron man contest.
