It's a 5 rounder but does it even matter? I'm thinking Nick Diaz and I think that and BJJ are the two advantages he has over GSP but I don't think either of them come into play much (if at all) in 5 rounds. GSP has enough of a gas tank to keep Nick Diaz off of him and put him on his back.

But let's say in a fight where it's just them and there are no time limits (old school Royce Gracie UFC style), who wins? Who finishes who?

It isn't a huge factor since neither fighter is known to gas in fights but Nick Diaz definitely has better cardio.

It's comparable. At the end of the day even if Diaz has a slight advantage it's for all intents and purposes negligible and irrelevant. GSP is a cardio monster too. It's like when Bendo fought Nate. Both are conditioning freaks yet many fans gave Nate the edge in the facet. Never once was any prospective edge in cardio on Nates end a difference maker.

In other words, Nick has to find another path to beating GSP than just, say, pushing the pace. GSP is going to be strong and active throughout five rounds.

Diaz will gas before GSP, due to having to carry both their weight all night.

This. Plus, GSP will likely be on top of Diaz for much of he fight which will give him time to rest. Until he gets subbed ;)

In a pure comparison, I'd give the edge to Diaz, as much as I regard GSP as the most athletic MMA fighter ever.

Maaaaybe. But I think Nick's cardio is so superior to GSP he might out last him. GSP has good cardio no doubt, but Nick's cardio is out of this world!

Nick Diaz without question and until GSP beats Diaz in a triathlon (which Diaz competes in all the damn time), it can't be argued so don't bother.

I don't think cardio will matter much in this fight. Diaz most likely has the best pure cardio but what matters is how they'll react to damage.

GSP has never gassed! Triathlons are nothing like fighting. Cardio is pretty much a non issue

GSP`s cardio is great not just good.
If Nicks game plan is to out-cardio GSP and sub from the bottom he would be better off taking the night off.

Diaz will wear down first. Mentally and physically.

He should have been doing sprinting.
