Beterbiev vs Smith Jr June 18th ESPN

Smith looked like a bum lol, zero head movement.

He sat in the pocket and just ate punches. He should have moved more and used his jab , and fought like a sniper. Bad game plan but he was clearly very limited anyway. Beterbiev is very strong in the pocket with his short sharp punches. You need to fight him at range. I still favour Bivol to out box him.

Impressive victory for Beterbiev. Smith bit down on his mouthpiece & bet on his firepower but was clearly outgunned.

Can’t fault the “punchers chance” strategy as he probably realized he wasn’t crafty enough to survive 12 rds, never mind pulling out a decision.

After tonight, I’m sure Bivol is more open to the idea of running it back w/ Canelo. I know I would be.

Bivol's attitude toward a Canelo rematch just turned a whole lot more positive. Log another payday before getting blasted by Beterbiev which seems 90% likely what he'd do.
I don't know, Bivol said he wanted Beterbiev to win this fight. He's about to get what he asked for.

All I know is that it'll look very bad on Bivol if his next fight isn't Beterbiev.

They both have mandatories next and Canelo is going to fight GGG.

I think Bivol-Beterbiev is a year out.

that was fun while it lasted, smith staying on the offence after being hurt was a bad decision, easily timed
Bivol and BB beat him easily in different ways, thats a great fight.

Should Canelo try Beterviev instead of rematching Bivol?

yeah I do as well but not by much. This fight has to happen next. Not interested at all in a canelo rematch, bivol won comfortably. This is easily one of the best fights that can be made right now

How does Bivol want any part of that when he can fight Canelo?

Got a feeling Canelo might not want any part of 175 anymore either. If Bivol was too much (mostly due to styles) what is Beterbiev going to be? Yes, he's there to be hit but he's too much bigger than Canelo and as people are starting to see...Beterbiev boxes pretty damn good too

Beterbiev is very good at cutting the ring off. He stops Bivol late

Maybe it's meaningless but...It's worth noting that Beterbiev defeated the likes of Usyk and Kovalev in the amateurs a few years back. In other words, he's ridiculously underrated. For whatever reason, many fans seem to think he's just a brute force of nature, kinda like a "Wilder" of the LHW division. But he's clearly way more skilled. It's not just his power, his footwork is also key in all his fights.

He doesn't have the boxing skill to "fight like a sniper". He's a basic fighter with good power, which is why he tried to put it on Beterbiev from the opening bell. The only thing that would've changed if he'd fought more cautiously would be the round the fight would've ended. He'd have lasted 3 or 4 more rounds with that approach. At least this way he took much less damage and worked to his strengths.

I've never heard anyone compare him to Wilder. He's far more refined than Wilder and has more than one shot.
