excluding weights or machines. i was hoping someone could describe to me a bodyweight exercise (ie, chin ups/push ups) that would work the lats.

    Why did you list pushups?

Do lats play that big of a role?

I can feel my lats when i bench sometimes,

i was listing pushups as an example of a bodyweight exercise but im not sure if they have a role in working your lats.

All kinds! I think pull ups (palms away) are the most lat-oriented, but I've seen an article saying that they're all equal.

Use the bar of a Smith Machine. If you can do 18 Chin Ups bodyweight rows will be of no use to you, you'll need a weighted vest to add resistance.
