I have an army fitness test coming up and I need to have a combined total of 75kg of grip strength. Now I am not the largest guy around, I'm only about 130lbs, and I'm not full of horsemeat. I am wondering what is a good way to improve my grip strength for my test that is in about 3 days.

We use a dynamometer for the test.

Also, are there any household items that can be used to test with?

Do exercises that involve your grip. Grippers come to mind first and foremost, and should be a good training tool for improving hand and grip strength. You can also do plate pinches, farmers walks, dumbbell pinches, and other similar exercises.

The other thing is that since you'll be joining the army, you're going to want to put on a bit of strength and size in order to cope with the demands of rucking. May I suggest a programme such as SS, 5/3/1, or Greyskull LP? If you are lifting heavier weights overall, naturally your grip strength is going to improve...

My googling shows me that your testing the same way you would close a gripper.

So do you have access to grippers?
If not, I would recommend a basic grip routine:

also as kiwitricker says, starting a basic strenght routine would be good and would streghten your entire body. Dont use straps, and if you can do thickbar work for assistance (chins, rows, etc)

Thanks guys I appriciate it... I've been looking to practice on a dynamometer but cannot find them anywhere.

the plastic ones look like they would break easy. If you want some grip strenght, I would purchuse some grippers.

I looked here and found out that the CoC 1.5 is 167.5 pounds, so thats around 75kilos.
Shouldnt be too hard to accomplish.

Just saw your test is in 3 days.. I dont think you'll be able to strenghten your hands much in 3days, bro.

3 days is not enough time. I think if you try to do too much grip training in the next 3 days then your grip will just be shot.

A combined total of 75kg? Does that mean you would only need to have about 37.5kg (~85lbs) per hand to pass? If that's the case I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Yes, I agree. Didnt see that he mentioned 3 days, I thought it said 3 months or something that made sense..
I would just relax, maybe do some contrast baths for your hands.

Yeah so 37.5kg in each hand.

You'll be fine then, unless you've been employed as a marshmallow tickler for the past decade

But marshmallow tickling has been the largest sector of the canadian economy, ahead of lumber, politeness and even Bryan Adams. There is a 80% chance that uopon retrirement, a Canadian citizen will have spent at least two decades as a marshmallow tickler.

So what you are telling me is that Canadians have delicate fingers?

would you recommend starting with the trainer, .5, or #1? I'm using the heavy and extra heavy tension grip master atm, wrist rolling with 15lbs.

Pretty expensive so I don't want to buy one and end up needing to order another one immediately
