Best sambo moves and takedowns in UFC?

SAMBO is merely a sport rule set, are you talking about Judo throws?

This.

In Japan, they train both at the same time. I'm assuming they do in Russia too.

Ju-Jitsu, Sambo ect. ect. all used to fall under the Judo banner.....Until the IJF, IOC and Graices did their hit job via "Re-branding" on one side, and playing fast and loose with competition rules on the other. (Luckily the A.A.U is now going forward with "Freestyle Judo"....I.E actual Judo. So, we'll see...)

But it's just a different rule sets to compete under. Whether you want to call it Newaza or B.J.J there is NO DIFFERENCE. Sport Sambo? Same deal...Check the official Kodakan Judo textbook. (You can buy it anywhere, it's been in print longer than we have been alive.).....It's all the same stuff.

As much as the IOC, IJF and Gracie family try and screw it up. It still is what it is.

nice try trying to sound smart. you failed. Sambo is judo, wrestling, striking + more. As a matter of fact, Sambo moves more resemble Japanese Judo pre 2010 when it was allowed leg grabs and leg takedowns. Since 2010 Olympic Judo (under IJF) bans anything "LEGS".

Yes, that's true.

But the "Combat Sambo" subset is really just Russian MMA.

As far as I know (And I am very much involved in Judo....Well...I used to be...the Covid police say "No Judo for me" now.)...striking has never been a part of competition Judo. It IS in the Kodakan textbook....Maybe Kimura vs Gracie? "Judo" Gene vs "Boxer guy" in the first American MMA match (Choke out...10 seconds at most. The crowd had never seen a "Choke-out" so they thought they were being "worked" and rioted.)....ahhh...Good times.

BTW speaking of "Works"

I'm of the opinion that UFC "unspoken rules" now dictate there is no grappling allowed in the first two rounds MINIMUM. At least no extended grappling.

It is essentially kick-boxing with the odd take-down that leads to nothing now.

I've had the feeling it's been "worked" in some way for a while now.

And this, or some version of it, is, I belive a big part of it.

Ya. He kicks his heel to his butt while taking mount. I wonder if they just happened because of the momentum of the throw, Orissa deliberate technique to avoid regaining of the half guard.

your statement sounded like Sambo = Judo and vice versa. Judo has some usless BS throws. Sambo kinda eliminated those and applies more finish via submissions. I do judo and i am loving it. Sambo just added more stuff from different martial arts such as wrestling (sambo has double leg TD, suplexes, etc). Judo doesn't allow suplexes, hand, leg grabbing (Gi only).
I don't think you watch sambo a lot, nor judo. Sambo has a lot of morote seoi nage type throws, while there is a fuckton of ura nage type throws in judo, especially georgian judo.

There is a striking element to Sambo but combat sambo is still mostly wrestling styles and judo. You only get points for knocdowns in sambo. Think about how rare knockdowns are in general in MMA. And because it's considered unreliable scoring, sambo itself is mostly takedowns and wrestling, because if you can get your opponent down you get 1 or 2 points, get him to some position you get one or two points, so on and so forth.

Everybody knows that the best ones happened outside the UFC

Sambo has a shit ton of complex variety of submissions.

I got to train Sambo a bit in the late 90’s and was shown a plethora of subs, most of which I would learn later on doing catch and Bjj. Lots of leg-locks. The instructor told us there are over 1,000 submissions to black-belt, then 1,500 more after black as you start to include double subs. No shit Khabib, Islam, and most of the Sambo crew are hard as shit to submit.

We didnt train many throws as this was taught to us “stand-up fighters” back in that time. I was in Kenpo/Kickboxing.

So for moves as the title says. My latest favorite has to be Islams mounted arm-bar transition on Kajan like 3-4 fights ago. You dont them that clean from mount anymore in mens divisions.

Might be my favorite UFC debut performance. I was off the walls watching this the first time haha.
Me too - it's too bad Rustam set the bar so high for himself and never quite showed the same brilliance again.

UFC is full of sambo fighters now. Sambo is the most complete martial art to transition to mma.
