There have been so many over the years between the wrasslin' territory / NWA days, the early WWF with Gorilla Monsoon, Ventura, Mcmahon; the late 90's with Ross and Lawler (WWF), Joey Styles (ECW), and Schiavone, Zbyszbko, and Teney (WCW). Michael Cole did a fine job replacing JR at first and there was Taz and the TNA guys, but I seriously doubt anyone is gonna suggest anything after the 90's as the best team ever. Personally, I couldn't stand Taz as a commentator.

There were a few WCW ppvs in the early 90's with Jim Ross, Dusty Rhodes and Bobby Heenan. That team was just perfect for that product at that time in my opinion.

You'd have to split this up for generations. Because I don't see JR/King do well in the 80s as much as Heenan/Monsoon in the 90s.

But who knows, they were both amazing.

JR & King started rocky...got really good...then fell off real hard...especially Lawler. Heenan & Monsoon broke up the band while it was still hot.

I liked Barnett and Ranallo doing NJPW.

That's fair!

Do you think Vince was in Gorilla and Bobby's ear as much as JR/King??

At their peak, King/JR were the best. JR for the calls, King for the laughs. There are a few older events that I watch almost like comedy event, because the perfectly timed Lawler quips are so relentless and hilarious. That RR with the infamous Taka elimination, is so damn funny throughout. Lawler was on the ball that night. I don't think Lawler gets enough credit for essentially replacing Bobby Heenan as the mainstay heel commentator. Those were some big shoes to fill.

That's a perfectly accurate description of their run.

I, personally, find Dusty to be way, WAY more funny than Lawler. Lawler can get annoying REAL quick.

Bobby Heenan with Monsoon, but Bobby was just great in general.

A bit before my time, but watching old events, Jesse the Body and Monsoon seemed like a great pair as well. I read once that The Body was one of the first heel commentators. Not sure how accurate that was but I read it somewhere.

JR and King. King in general when we always allowed to be racist/sexist etc. Good times.

May be controversial but I really enjoyed Mauro in NXT. He seemed really passionate and hyped.

There's a lot of good combos to choose from, but NONE of them involve Michael Cole.
