I previously made a thread asking about the best martial arts movies. I said that anything, even kungfu movies, were welcome, so it's my own fault, but the thread ended up being full of Asian movies...

The truth is, Asian movies, particularly their martial arts movies, are horrible. The action is far too superhuman/Matrix, the acting is inexcusably horrible and the dialogue is straight stupid. Stopping in the middle of the fight to exchange stupid dialogue is also a problem I can't stand.

Was it in Ip Man that guy suddenly stops to say "what a powerful technique" after getting hit? Was it in Hero (or Fearless or whatever) that the mountain man suddenly says "tiger claw!" while attacking? Saying his attacking names like a fucking spell or what?

Point is, this thread is for any non-Asian martial arts movies. Recommend the best ones you know. Keep in mind that the movie is welcome to be set in Asia, if the director is non-Asian and you can guarantee me that I won't see the usual awkward Asian acting.

(I'm REALLY looking forward to the movie A Prayer Before Dawn, for example, even if it's set in Thailand. The reason is, that at least we're talking about a serious movie here, not that unrealistic Ong Bak stuff...)

Steven Seagal had some goot ones

Regarding Mortal Kombat and Bloodsport, I actually enjoyed them more than Asian movies. Yeah, they were bad, but they were entertaining and yes, even a primitive videogame adaption like Mortal Kombat is levels above 99% of Asian cinema.

I liked The Quest more than Bloodsport, though.

Undisputed series.
King Of The Kickboxers series (Loren Avedon is sick).
Best Of The Best.
American Ninja series.

That should do you for now.

See, THAT's a bunch of good suggestions!

I really loved Undisputed II and III. The first and fourth movies were okay.

The King of the Kickboxers looks like the kinda thing I'm looking for.

Have you seen Blood and Bone? If not, do yourself a favor and do it. It could almost go for a ghetto spinoff of Undisputed, the action is very similar., and EAMONN WALKER is in the movie.

American Ninja 1 was the best. The sequels sucked.

Regarding the topic, some of the best non-Asian martial films are:

  • Kickboxer 1 - Jean Claude Van Damme
  • Bloodsport 1 - same as above
  • Anyone of Steven Seagal's films
  • Big Trouble In Little China - the Hollywood classic that inspired the game Mortal Kombat!
I know you said no Asian martial art films, but I'd highly recommend giving the following a chance - they have decent plots and fight scenes that would blow away any Hollywood martial art films:
  • Drunken Master 2 - Jackie Chan
  • Once Upon a Time in China - Jet Li

I'm stoked for the new karate kid thing I've been seeing advertised on YouTube

Not sure I agree with the tone of your post lol. But watch The Raid: Redemption. It's Asian, but its more "realistic" I guess as far as action movies go. Real functional brutality

Can i know some of the asian movies you saw which were not martial arts or action movies?

Just curious about how you formed such a strong opinion.

Martial Arts Movie fans also don't like the lighter weight fighters.

They want Welterweights, Cruiserweights and Superheavyweights.

Stallone, Chuck, Jean are 5'10 plus.

UFC1 - UFC226 or whatever the hell it is now.

While I don't remember all of them, I will give you some examples from the top of my mind.

Look how much better Godzilla became when not made in Japan.
Look at the acting in the movie of Koizora. I actually liked Koizora, it's the best Japanese drama movie I have ever seen, but the acting was kinda lame, lol.
Let's not even talk about the anime adaptions such as Great Teacher Onizuka, lol.
I tried watching the critically acclaimed Red Cliff movies, but had to stop, it was simply so stupid, especially that fluting scene...
The Korean/Chinese/Japanese crime movies I have given a chance also ended up disappointing.
And the worst movie I have ever seen, Yakuza Apocalypse, oh boy....

The list is long.
