best discipline for me to learn?

i'll be doing this over the off season, obviously i have team trainings during the season.
but i am doing this on the side to comliment what rugby training i do.

Wrestle at chricton bro i train there we got the current oceanic champion at 96kg and at top notch trainer that has wrestled with some top guys in japan.

Wrestling will be best for league all these americans are thinking rugby
Judo will take second and you got it at chrictons too!

i'll be doing this over the off season (when we have no team practise) alot of professional league clubs are bringing in judo and jiu jitsu instructors to help in the tackle area.

This is rediculous.

Organize some games of silly buggers with team-mates, join a recreational team, practice kicking, practice other sports specific drills, etc.

Edit: Oh Jesus Christ I just saw you're in Christchurch. Are you trying to say you can't find any additional rugby training in Christchurch, NZ, during the off season? You gotta be joking bro. Go play your sport.

By the way, what team sport do you guys recommend for getting better at muay thai?

Doing additional rugby training would be complimentary. Doing wrestling training would not be as complimentary as doing additional rugby or rugby related drills and weight room work.

If you have team training 3x per week, and you still feel you need additional training on top of that and your weight room, agility, and conditioning work, then go find a local club. You'll hone your handling, passing, and kicking skills. You'll hone your agility when you run on the field. You will hone a tonne of things that just wouldn't be hit during wrestling.

have a read-i'll be doing this over the off season ie, while no training is on.

whats so ridiculous to think that grappling would help control the tackle area?
as ive written this is not the only reason for me to take up MA but is part of it.
NZbeast thanks alot crichton cobbers is looking better and better

As a former rugby player i would have to say judo i was doing osoto gari on the field way before i put on a gi .

a good wrestling shot can be good too but its hard to do that and make it not look bad when you have him in the air .

morote gari would be good for you to drill

Morote-gari

Academy of Combat is a good school, Geoff Aitken is a solid black belt. I believe John Will goes there for seminars.

Rugby league is different to rugby its only really played in Oz nz and england. No rucks, no mauls, less kicking just running at the line for 5 tackles then kick or turnover.

Far better game and 1 on 1 tackling happens alot more

ahh ok so i take it there some leeway in throws ??

There is no headlock style takedowns it would be impossible to grab the modern shirts these days (very tight) but aslong as the guy doesnt land directly on his head or shoulders it usually goes. Some throws are banned tho

Heres some state of origin you can get away with almost anything haha

and your right beast league is the best team sport in the world!!!! anyway thanks for all the advice guys. ive started muay thai for striking and going to start traditional jujutsu and wrestling,

after university finishes for the year im going to try a little bjj or possible drop the muay thai and just go to a few mma classes a week.

I wrestled before I played rugby. It helped a lot in the scrum, as well as when making tackles. I played a flanker. Of course, rugby practice is the best for getting better at rugby.
