Best Christopher Nolan Movie?

this thread motivated me to go rematch some of these now i am seriously rethinking my vote for TDK as an almost tie with inception

The prestige for sure. Blew me away the first time i saw it, and i can rewatch it every couple years and enjoy it every time.

Insertion would probably be my second choice
Really? Insertion is always my first choice

{<hhh]

TDK for me, closely followed by Begins. TDK is one of three movies I actually went to see in the theater twice.

Dark Knight Rises

Bane is the GOAT villain and you can @ me with any feeble argument I'll destroy.

those movies are amazing but have you recently watched insomnia and Memento? those 2 films are fucking fantastic.

Most of him films kinda scream "look how epic and clever this is".. Without being it.

But batman begins is solid even after rewatched many times .

Honestly in some respects I think the Batman films actually suit his latter style better than his other work even if they might not be viewed in as serious a fashion. Again for me the problem he often has is that many scenes tend to drift by in a rather characterless fashion but the Batman films make sure pretty much every character has something to them.

I certainly don't think he's some neo Kubrick, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind Spielberg is probably much closer to the truth.

Prestige and dark knight are 1 and 2. Not sure about the 3rd but for me these are by far his best. I also have them in my top 10 all time movies.

Haven't seen either tbh. Haven't seen many Nolan films, although I've liked every one I've watched.

Just the Batman trilogy and inception

Hate to be such a hipster about it, but Following is fucking terrific and i'm mad more people haven't seen it

watch them they are great plus they have quite different feel than his later films.
also what @Da Speeit said following is a great ,movie.

also anybody in this thread seen the original insomnia movie?

His more recent stuff I think the problem is he brings the drama to the high concept stuff but less so to the smaller scale scenes. Such scenes don't need to be filmed in such a straight forward manner, there should still be room to let the actors give more subtle performances. I think the comparison to recent high concept genre films like Under The Skin, Moon or Black Swan shows you the difference, those films don't slip into the mundane at all, almost every moment is looking to push things somehow.

Again I suspect part of this is that his massive budgets mean he's aiming at a wider audience who are potentially less receptive to a more ambitious style.
Style often is the antithesis of clarity, which Nolan cannot abide although he sometimes comes up short or veers too far afield. Especially when saddling exposition inside the mouths of mumblers. For the most part he's too insistent in making things plainly obvious.

I'd imagine a lot of it is simply about the budgets he's working with, Hollywood generally doesn't give out $200 million to more obtuse sci fi(probably even less so post Blade Runner 2046) but rather something the average joe can follow.

Again though I kind of feel Batman actually suited this style, its perhaps more grounded than most superhero films but still its dealing with some kind of elevated reality and a lot of the characters do have a larger than life nature to them which gives the films more personality and helps cover large amounts of exposition better.
