Best Boxing Books You've Read

Everyone says they don't fit neatly into any category.

I'll applaud when someone finally admits, "yes, I fit neatly into a specific category".

don't know where you're going, being facetious serious or what have you but I have indeed read many many books and whether wrongly or rightly people close to me think i'm streetsmart too. I don't agree but that's what they think, I think i'm a nerd but when several people say the same thing, well maybe they see something I don't.

It used to insult me and sometimes still does when people say that, because then they think well, he's involved in crime, drugs, alcohol, scams. In fact it still does insult me, i've had people ask "ever try heroin" what the fuck kind of question is that. I just respond that's an insult don't know who the fuck they think they're talking to. My best friend asked me once before we really knew each other "you remember when you were getting your GED....." I said "GED? that's beneath me motherfucker".

So after reading your suggestions I went to my local Barnes and Noble (not so local anymore as they are falling off the planet) and perused the boxing section (or should I say the half a shelf where "B" sports are all mixed together (basketball, baseball, badminton). There was basically nothing other than a couple of Muhammed Ali books, which are fine, but I've read enough Muhammed Ali books to last a life time. But I did find one book which I bought and I don't think I read mentioned here.

It's called "The Good Son" about the career of Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini. And, while I haven't got there yet, goes into how killing another fighter in the ring messed with him psychologically. Should be a good one I think. The writing is well done thus far.

Free shipping, fine delivery speeds, good prices, good service, good selection. Though there might be a better native option for you in the US, this is really handy for me since shipping to Korea is expensive from most online book stores.

Well played, just bought Hands of Stone, the Dark Trade also interests me but they are out of stock.

As for MMA books, someone mentioned No Holds Barred which is fantastic. In terms of fighter's books Chuck's and BJ Penn's are very good. Tito's is more like a soap opera, Brock's has barely anything about MMA, Forrest's is totally off the wall and Sonnen's is very entertaining but not much about fighting really.

I was enjoying hatton’s book when I was browsing it at an airport bookstore when flight was delayed last wk. although not exclusively boxing I enjoyed ‘ a fighters heart’ by Sam Sheridan. Esp. the time he spend with ward and hunter. They are both very switched on guys.

I read that.

I understand boxing books and can't follow tv shows ffs.

Teddy's book was great, I really enjoyed Micky wards autobiography as well. Also pound for pound and rope burns by F.X. Toile for some great boxing fiction.

A Flame of Pure Fire was good, as was The Fearless Harry Greb. Four kings was fun. The Fight by Norman Mailer ruled. The Arc of Boxing I am reading now and I dig it so far.

I assume some of you already read the Tao of Jeet Kune Do.
Do you recommend it for 20€? is it worth the money?

I genuinely belly laughed at this.

Also in the thread to back up people recommending dark trade.

Facing Tyson is an easy interesting read as its the stories of fifteen fights and a little bit of the guys who fought hims life.

War baby by Kevin Mitchell is an amazing book too, about Benn v McClellan.

Facing Ali is one that I been wanting for a while but last year I went fairly heavily buying non boxing books so*I still haven't got round to it.

Did you read war baby? I think I've read it twice. Long time ago so I forget most of the details but I do know I seriously was into it both times.

Cinderella Man is a good book and gives a more balanced view of Max Baer.

Irish Thunder also gives a lot more of the story than The Fighter had time to depict.

Both get a little too detailed, but good reads if you are a really enjoy learning about not just boxing, but the business behind it.

I'm reading Leonard's autobiography right now, but keep getting distracted from it.
