Best action still image in mma history?

Nearly the whole page without the answer. The weight and awesomeness of that picture, on that night, with those two, at that point in the evolution of the sport...it's the only answer.

I've also always loved this one. Very few things scarier to see...

Candidly the ring allows for the absolute best camera angles.

The cage is horrible. There are no shots like this with a cage

I thought Robbie had won it at first but only narrowly. I've watched the fight so many times though that I can see how Carlos should've won it. The unfortunate aftermath is that it seemed to have broke Carlos :(
Yep. Condit was never the same after that fight. After that he fought like he had no motivation and was just going through the movements.

Sherdog was so much more fun back then.

Sherdog is a shell of its former self, the lead up to Jones Shogun was dope, multiple threads with hundreds or thousands of posts. Been around longer than that, but remember that as a fun time.

After looking at all the images posted, literally all the Pride ones are leagues better than any of the UFC ones except maybe the showtime kick which was WEC

It’s crazy right, is it just that the ring looks better as a background? That the fights were wilder? Or that PRIDE was surrounded by a special energy that made it cooler? Maybe the photographers were better too?

Not sure, but all of the photos from PRIDE are infinitely better. They have a cinematic quality to them.

They do have a cinematic quality.

In terms of photography IMO it's the angles that are possible which aren't with the cage. Also the background of just 3 horizontal lines (the ropes) rather than a cage wall. The white ring helps make it look more dramatic too.

In terms of angles the shots look very up close. When the shot comes from near the canvas you get a sense of being there live or even literally over the shoulder of one of the fighters.

Most of the shots you can see the whole fighter or fighters rather than just from the waste up. Literally seeing the whole picture adds some gravitas to it.

All these same factors give boxing photos the same effects which is very cinematic.
