News Benson Henderson retired

The definition of a tank.

Always loved his nickname as a tribute.

I always wanted to see him fight Eddie Alvarez and Gilbert Melendez back in the day. Pettis ended up getting those fights and they never happened. Amazing career!!

That's how I started watching mma, those versus cards. I was in like 6th or 7th grade and that shit blew my mind
Still remember watching Faber break both hands and fight Mike brown to a decision with just his elbows like it was yesterday
This was the first WEC card I saw and happened to catch the last three fights while just flipping through channels. I was already a UFC/Pride fan and had heard of WEC but never watched it. I just assumed since it was lighter weight classes that there wouldn't be as many fighters and therefore less talent. Holy fuck was I wrong lol. I saw Aldo demolish Cub and then watched the Faber/Brown fight. I was obviously immediately hooked and was able to catch the last few WEC cards before they got bought out. End era WEC was absolute fire with some phenomenal fights and rivalries.

Good fighter, nice dude. Hope to see him on season 2 of Physical: 100

I have long been a fan of his. I think a lot of his fights were really fun to watch. The clashes with Pettis. The wins over Varner and Cerrone. His fights with Guida and Jim Miller. Both his closely-contested fights with Frankie. His lopsided win over Nate (perhaps his definitive moment as champ in the UFC).

He showed a lot of skill in the cage, but his conditioning and his heart were very notable too. Beyond that, he was respectful to his opponents and came across as a good guy.

Time flies. I recall the night where he got the nod over Gil in a tight bout. Doesn’t seem so long ago. It’s a month shy of a decade. A lot of those great lightweights from that era have retired.

Sad to see him call it a career but I’m sure it is the right time. Wishing him and his family all the best.

I remember when everyone used to hate Bendo. He won some questionable decisions but he has some good fights. Him doing a wwe style enziguiri against Frankie was so awesome. Hope he stays healthy and away from fight game.

BKFC time, baby!
I hope not. I hate to see quality fighters have to finish their careers in that shitty promotion for that one last payday.

Benson had a great career, and I think has been generally underappreciated. I think he'd be excellent at coaching if that's something he'd be interested in. Wish him the best.

Watching him kick the shit out of Brandon thatch was one of the coolest fights I can remember. Betting a shitload on him might have been why though

I always fantasized that Benson (grappler/kicker) was still young and fought Conor on the way up, crushing that hype train even before Nate did it.

DC told a really interesting story about how Benson Henderson’s body feels weirdly dense, something you feel even just shaking his hand. Massage therapists would literally stand on his back because of his crazy muscle and tissue density. The guy is clearly a very special athletic talent, and he’s had an amazing career, not many people can remain competitive as long as he did. Enjoy retirement champ!

Bendo never looked elite after Pettis beat him (for the second time) and took his UFC belt. In fact, Pettis finished him with a 1st round sub just like tonight. Bendo's mediocre record in Bellator is simply a result of age and wear....and a style that didn't age all that well because he didn't have "old man KO power" like Yoel, Hendo or Chandler.
He may be the only man on the roster of his time I wouldn’t second guess if he sail all natty. A genuine representative of a good dude in comvat sports
