Ben Askren has higher finish rate than Johny Hendricks

Is he the better finisher or the more frequent finisher?

Because I'm pretty sure this statistic only supports the latter. The former is subjective.

The stat doesnt really prove anything to me. It would be like looking at this past NCAA hoops season claiming that Wichita State was the best team going into the tournament because they were undefeated. But competition is everything in sports. Beating up on teams in the Missouri Valley is like Askren beating up on these nobodies from OneFC.

The only difference is Askren doesnt get to enter the tournament to prove himself, at least not yet.

Sorry weird analogy but it feels soooooooooo right.

What level of competition has each fighter finished, look to that, because there are guys in the d leagues with better finishing rates than both.

I would like to see Askren finish guys like GSP, Lawler, Fitch, Kampann, Condit, etc.

Lawler and Condit are a little bit tougher than Suzuki.

Don't start making sense around here. We're in the Worldwide (formerly "Pretenders") area, where competition is meaningless and win streaks/finishes mean everything. Jake Shields didn't have a loss for 6 years, then he goes 4-3 in the UFC. Does that mean the UFC competition is better? Well, no, because no one is allowed to say that.

The same is true for Askren. His last three opponents (Andrey Koreshkov, Bakhtiyar Abbasov and Nobutatsu Suzuki) are just as good as Condit, GSP and Lawler. Let's not use our brains around here...win streaks and finish rates are everything!!

Nor would Askren, who barely beat Jay Hieron.

I don't know, Ben is ever better and since they don't sign him we are just talking about angels' sex.

Is he boring? No
Why don't sign BA for being boring and continue to pay people like Guida?

Sheilds resume is fantastic. Da fuck are you smoking

4-3 (Shields in the UFC) is respectable, but not fantastic. You missed my point, though. His record was fantastic until he entered the UFC. That's an example of the braindead posting I was talking about.

Holy shit! Ben Askren's finish rate is 0.8% higher than the UFC champions who actually fights ranked opponents!

Dana sign this guy already!!

Your resume doesnt change because you dropped a few fights. Whose Braindead now?

What about Anderson losing in pride and then dominating in UFC? Goes both ways.

Johnny had 3 fights before going into the WEC and then 2 more before going to UFC.

Thats only 5 fights

He didn't fight ranked opponents his entire career. And still had many decisions in the beginning. And the point isn't about who fought better guys, or whether Hendricks is less exciting. The point is that Askren isn't as boring as people think.

Askren = john fitch

Askren = Jon Fitch.... if Fitch had a personality and knew how to get people interested and used top control that didn't involve him staying in the guard and was a world class wrestler instead of a good wrestler.

Let's not pretend he's never fought anyone with a name, I mean... really.

Bakhtiyar Abbasov is a name. It's not one I could spell without google, say without hearing it or remember without meeting him, but it's a name damnit.
