News Bellator sale talks heating up

I guess so they can slowly absorb people into the PFL brand while honouring the Bellator contracts and not serving up a buffet of fighters for the UFC to choose from

maybe have tv, venue, sponsorships etc they have to honor. its basically what ufc did with SF, it was business as usual to the media but it was really just waiting for everything to be free and clear for them to dump it and absorb. have to assume its the same thing here.

but it will be interesting to see if they can bring people over, do they do any cross promo events while bellator still exists.

wonder if we'll see any big bellator names think about fighting out deal and jump to the ufc but only problem with that is ufc's position now. they are so secure in their spot making money with these owners they dont care about having all the best guys like they did a decade ago. say what you want about lorenzo and Zuffa back then but they wanted the best guys. now i could see nemkov or aj or amosov going to ufc and them being like they want how much money? Nah we're good.

TKO Holdings Group, which is the new parent company for both WWE and UFC under one banner, recently released a SEC filing . In it, TKO described MMA companies such as Bellator, PFL, ONE Championship and Rizin Fighting Federation as key competition for UFC. On the WWE side, the filing noted that wrestling promotions such as AEW, IMPACT, Ring Of Honor and New Japan could be counted as competitors in the market. The first time UFC & WWE ever or TKO Holdings Group is acknowledging that there's competition in the market place.

Only 4 MMA promotions...

It's called trying not to be viewed as a monopoly.

Unfortunately, they'll never not be viewed as one. They dominate the MMA market like many of the top businesses in most fields who are always trying to defend themselves (ie: Walmart).

I think I understand what they are doing here. By keeping 2 organizations "running" they can move all the fighters they want into PFL and the 80% of fighters they dont want can stay in bellator as they fold up shop and dissolve. This way pfl doesnt take on any fighter contracts and liabilities they dont want.

This is why we are hearing 2 rumors. PFL buying bellator and bellator dissolving. PFL will take the fighters they want and let the rest of bellator die a slow death.

PFL will only take the fighters they want and they will let the rest of the roster die with bellator.

PFL will need fighters for all their PFL branches... PFL Europe, PLA Africa, PFL.....

This waiting is too long to find out about Bellator, are they even still selling?

This is probably like what happened with Strikeforce. The UFC kept it around for awhile after buying it because it had contracts that needed to be fulfilled before they could shut it down. After awhile they started draining it of talent but they had to keep the show going untill all the broadcast rights contracts were fulfilled.

I was hoping that Bellator might figure something out, but now I'm at the point where I would just like their fate to be announced. Their roster is too good to be in some weird limbo. I'd rather they all just go to PFL and offer something resembling competition to the monopsony.

That's not what they did with WSOF GLOBAL and it's not what they've been doing with the PFL Europe cards they've put on so far so it doesn't seem like what they will be doing with any of their expansions.
