News Bellator sale talks heating up

With 5 billion dollars why wouldn't you just make your own MMA promotion? In fact 5 billion dollar investment would already make them a direct competitor to the UFC lmao.

+juan,
Its not like Bellator is a well know brand name that means something.
Sometimes there is logic to buy something based on brand name / value.
Not here.

5 billion is obviously ridiculous but there's significant value in the roster and the video library. Those things take a long time to build up.

I think at this point if anything it might have negative value. The brand that is.

LOL that harsh. But I get what you are saying.
The brand has not gotten stronger over the years that for sure.

I liked it during Bjorns time, the tournament style events.
It set them a bit apart from other orgs.

Also if we talk value, just use Sherdog as a messuring stick.
There is almost no talks, hype, buzz for Bellator among the posters.

The UFC has become a juggernaut during that time, there is almost no talk, hype, or buzz for anything non-UFC

True, but there is room for other orgs.
I know why they dont succeed with getting more buzz out there.
Today with social media and so on, I mean freaking dogs has millions of followers (hyperbole I hope..),
There is enough fighters out there. There are exciting fighters out there.
It can be done. (easy to say I know).
They should at least be able to generate more BUZZ.

But I think whats lacking is money/investors that does it for the love of the sport.
A lot of people saw it as a get rich quick idea, they saw UFC blow up and jumped on.
It aint working. Its hard work and time consuming.

Oh, if Jeff Bezos one day was like man I want my own UFC - he absolutely could create a promotion that at the very least get serious talks of "UFC vs ____". Whether it would supplant the UFC would come down to a lot of factors but it absolutely would be a legitimate competitor.

But no rich guy is going to invest in MMA when they can invest in AI and a million other things that make way more money.

It'll probably just take someone who was born mega rich that simply wants his own MMA promotion as a toy like when Khan made his own wrestling promotion. AEW is a big step up as a #2 promotion in wrestling, before that the #2 promotions in wrestling were absolutely tiny with no brand recognition, not much different from current MMA.

That was basically what Mark Cuban was going to do the HDNET FIGHTS back in like 2007ish. Held two events and decided that it was cheaper and better way to make money by getting the media rights to establish orgs(ie: Dream, MFC, K-1, etc) to show on his HDNET channel. He had a media outlet for the his org, arena, production company, billions, and his name alone will open any door in the business world. Plus this was at a time you could argue a true competitor could have emerged and rained on the UFC's parade to some level that actually matters. Cuban could've easily bought out PRIDE to bolster his roster. Pick up the scraps of Bodog. Maybe worked with buying out WEC in 2006. Might even combined or bought out Strikeforce even. Really make you wonder what could've of been if Cuban went all in at that time.

Today, easily 10 times harder to do anything in the MMA world that matters on a large scale.

I have an idea: We should buy Bellator. Rebrand it to WCF - worldwide championship fighting.

There's gotta be at least one billionaire amongst the dozen or so people who post on this board right?

True story - An MMA org I worked for was sued by Bellator and got the judgement within hours of this promoter having the rights to the name.

They apparently had deeper pockets and correlates to an old adage I heard about the business.

"Want to make a small fortune in MMA? Then start off with a big one"

I'm in, but I need a high ranking position, perhaps president. I can contribute maybe 10k, so you gotta find the other 249,990,000

Does anyone know how much Viacom bought bellator for?

Nvm it was 50 million

you're all omitting a huge factor here - inflation.

bellator WAS worth $7B.

but now it's worth closer to $8B.

<31>

No wonder Dana been so pissy lately.

Also I am pretty sure its soon worth 9.2B because Big Frank might sign with them and bring a lot of viewers.
Because fans are loyal to fighters and follow them to a new org.
This will be HUGE.
