Bellator releases seven fighters

Why the hell did they cut Jansen?

I remember being pissed about the LaRue Burley cut only to have him lose his next fight in WSOF.

"Yeah, let's starve our divisions but let's sign some College wrestlers who aren't even ready to fight yet!"

I would love to know what kind of money and signing bonus guys like Pico and Ruth are receiving. I will admit though i'm pretty geeked out to watch their careers play out.

Pretty decent fighters there. Seems silly of Bellator to cut them. Most will likely end up in WSOF, Titan FC, RFA or taking fights in other promotions.

Gotta make some cash available for the next tent pole card main evented by a senior citizen.

Now people complaining about Bellator releasing fighters that doesn't move the needle. Just a week ago, people was complaining how Bellator has no name fighters.

Rory is most likely coming. Currently, you can say Rory is the 3rd best WW in the UFC. Then you got the wrestlers coming in. Bellator is trying to stack their roster with faces people know.

They did the same thing last year (Sarnavskiy, Volkov and some others in one fell swoop). At the time, I thought it might be related to the impending free agency of Benson Henderson, who they did end up signing a few months later.

These cuts might be a sign that they're making a serious run at Rory MacDonald.

I hope they aren't trying to make a serious run at Rory. I don't see Rory helping the ratings anymore than Henderson did.

Most people who said Bellator only has no-names are most likely referring to the prelim fighters or the human sacrifices who are in squash matches. The lack of mid-level fighters amplifies the low-level presence on the cards. Last year, one of the MAIN cards had Roger Carroll, Rudy Bears, and Dennis Olson. The fact that they were treated as some high-level fighters was cringeworthy and fucking hilarious.

Rampage only drew about 700k viewers, Rory is nowhere near as popular as Rampage. If Rory comes in, he will most likely be overpaid. I really don't think some college wrestlers are going to make a dent at this point. More MMA fans are familiar with Alexander Volkov than any of those guys. It'll be a long time before they'll be able to fight, who knows in what shape Bellator will be by then? Looking at the bigger picture, it's just not worth it to go with this strategy.

Should have kept Jansen, Parlo, and Butler for sure. I've defended Bellator for a long time but it's getting to the point where they are making that super difficult.

One of the things that sucks about the new Bellator under Coker & Co is that they don't have enough cards to house very deep divisions. Fighters on roster sit around forever because they simply don't put on enough shows. Its yet another thing that all the armchair promoters both in media and on forums said would be good but in reality sucks. "If they get rid of the seasons and cut back the number of cards, they'll get better ratings and will be able to stack the cards!" Yep, that's just turned out so great hasn't it!? LOL, what a joke!
