Not only did Bellator MMA put on an entertaining night of fights - one packed with an array of stoppages and culminated in a thrilling five-round title fight and the crowning of a new champion - they also outshone the UFC in ticket sales for the event and produced a record breaking attendance at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Mohegan Sun officials informed BloodyElbow that Bellator 123 brought in over 7000 spectators to watch the event, which is a record-breaking attendance figure for the venue.

In comparison, it appears the UFC's attendance was 4,086 and brought in a gate of $479,620. Their event took place at the Foxwoods Resort Casino less than ten miles away from the Mohegan Sun.

I personally only care about TV ratings, don't really see the importance of gate attendance/gross. But was the UFC event packed? Was 4,000+ all it could hold?

Bellator tickets are about 1/20 of a UFC ticket. You can charge less for shittier quality and mouth breathers will come.

yeah, it would be more interesting to know the live gate than the attendance.

the gate for the UFC was $479,620., no word on the gate for Bellator.

What was the capacity of the arenas they ran? The theater the UFC ran looked small as fuck

Easy to fill an arena charging 10 bucks a ticket.

Also UFC 55 had an attendance of 8,000 at the Mohegan Sun, UFC 45 did 9,200, UFC 39 did 7,800, UFC 35 did 9,600, so 7,000 is not record breaking for the venue. Maybe for Bellator but not the Mohegan Sun.

Mohegan Sun about 10,000
Edit: I have seen Foxwoods listed between 4,000-6,000

He also admits that tickets were sold by fighters on consignment, I would assume official ticket outlets numbers are much easier to get right after an event than the numbers on what the gyms sold.

People will spin it to make it look like the UFC really didn't do bad at all when they did. The whole point of them running a show right next door to Bellator was to try and empty out the Mohegan Sun. It's pretty simple knowledge and they apparently failed. That's what happens when you charge so damn much to run at a lesser venue. Really glad Bellator did well. Mohegan Sun is a great venue for them.

UFC sold out and took a gate of $400,000. Yeah I guess we need to spin that for some reason.

You are spinning it. Bellator pulled in the greatest gate the Mohegan Sun has ever had. The UFC was hoping that nobody would show up to Bellator's show simply because there was a UFC going on. Well that didn't happen. But you're very anti-Bellator pro UFC and always have been. Just like numerous people in this thread.

No they didn't. Repeating a lie doesn't make it true. As I listed early every UFC event ever held at the Mohegan Sun outdrew Bellator. Those are facts. As is UFC selling out and more than quadrupling Bellator's gate.

Spinning is taking a negative and trying to make it sound positive. Like Bellator doing an 82k gate. That's negative, but saying they broke the attendance record (though they didn't) is a spin. I'm not anti Bellator just pro factual information.

You are likely just a UFC hater and haters are gonna hate.

That venue holds 9,518 for basketball games and has a WNBA team. The WNBA team (Connecticut Sun) announced at least one sellout crowd in each of its first 6 years and has had a number of years where their announced attendance average was over 8,000, with the rest being over 7,000. Then you have concerts, which like an MMA event, can probably put in more people than a basketball game allows. So I don't believe that 7,000 was their largest crowd ever in that building.

But maybe they were only talking about the largest MMA event crowd.

Honestly the ufc fight night looked like a tittan fc or LFC show in terms of attendance. Bellator making waves

lol Bellator charging High School Football ticket prices. Their attendance numbers was a way for them to spin the night, when Foxwoods is a much smaller venue.

blows my mind, all the comp tickets. do they give those out to sponsors or just hand them out to drunk people outside the arena?

The Mohegan Sun traditionally gives out tickets to events to its gamblers as a show of appreciation.
