Can someone help me understand why Vitor has looked so awful on the ground lately??? Absolute whitebelt, didn't try to pull guard. Did he completely forget ? I thought he is a BJJ blackbelt? Zero defence on the ground against Weidman and now again against Jacare.

Jacare and Weidman are just good on top.

Vitor actually had a sick scramble against Jacare and almost ripped Jones' arm off.

Belfort,JDS,Wand,Machida,Shogun all fake blackbelts.Just because they're brazillians.

Jacare is a world class BJJ guy and Weidman was a college wrestler. Not too many people are going to look good underneath those guys.

Almost any fighter would look awful having Jacare on top of you and dropping those bombs. So don't need to bash Vitor's ground game.

Probably focused much more on striking than grappling.

That and Jacare has insane BJJ.

Before Vitor came to the UFC (in the 90s) I read about him being a young prodigy of Carlson Gracie. I was excited to see him fight and see what he could do on the ground.

His first UFC fight against Silva was all punches. I think at that point he decided he was a boxer. Really I think the only person he used BJJ against early on was Tank, and thats because people had been bagging on his BJJ for the whole time he was in the UFC.

Its sad, really, that one of the last Carlson Gracie black belts has never seemed to want to use (or even show) his ground skills in the cage.

I think he's just physically overwhelmed by those guys, in addition to them having a much better ground game. He's just small compared to these big 185ers since coming off the TRT, even though I thought he looked in good shape physically

My theory on it is that once the fight reached the ground against those guys , he mentaly broke and conceded defeat

I actually thought his escape was fairly good considering it was Jacare on top of him. Pity for him he got taken straight back down again.

He probably got his black belt from a mcdojo or sumchit. Didn't King Chael once try to tell us that some bjj Black belts come in a McDonald's happy meal from some Brazilian instructors?

Yes, but he didn't seem to try to hold on. Yes Jacare is one of the best BJJ guys out there, but you often see lower ranked guys hold on for a while. But Vitor just seemed to not even use any BJJ defence.

Actually he didn't straight get taken down after the escape. He pulled guard lol.

Trt was only for his offense and physical defense.
He is no lion.
