Media Belal Muhammad calling Gilbert a DUCK

I don't think Belal is winning this argument, makes him look weak.

Gilbert just peaked, and made weight, to go through that again a couple of weeks later is brutal on the body.

To not only ask him to accept a short notice bout but demand he make weight again comes off as scared and intimidated.

If you're calling for a short notice fight, esp. after having just fought you should be cool with catchweight.

Really who gives a fuck anyways? Not like either guy is going to weigh 170 lbs clean in the octagon. You get to fight a WW number one contender fight without a weight cut. What is the issue?
Won't be a contender fight if it's catch weight. Dana doesn't play that. CW is a fun fight but not for a title shot.

Isn't it the other way around? I thought it was Burns who wanted 170 and Belal is the one who doesn't want to make weight.

No one's calling anyone a duck, just negotiating terms. The event they're looking at (for some reason) is less than 3 weeks out, and Belal will have done Ramadan for about a month now. That all with the fact that Burns just fought, and the expectation of catch weight isn't that weird. However, Burns is right that this should be an eliminator and basically shouldn't be at catchweight, so I feel like the remaining question is, why the fuck can't they book it for UFC 289 or something?

It's all a bit silly at this point to deny Gilbert a title shot.

We all know... just as Gilbert knows... that any of these top guyz could steal a fight or even out right win, but Gilbert's saying that he's done the work... & at this point in his career... he's got limited time and so he can't risk his title shot by dropping back. He'z on deck & that's all there is too it.

This is perfectly understandable coming from Gilbert, who has been a company man his whole career. Anyone... any time... has been his mantra, but it's time to offer him his reward for his service & sacrificez.

It's time for the company to work for him now.

I sympathised with Belal for a while. But now he’s starting to get annoying. Colby was able to make weight at short notice to be back up. If Belal can’t make 170 at short notice, that’s his problem.

If he’s so interested in Catchweight bouts, the UFC should line him up with Chimaev.

Colby isn't a Muslim that just went through Ramadan. Expecting someone to fight 18 days after fasting for a month makes zero sense.

Because Beneil/Oliveira got moved from 288 to 289, and they're trying to find a new comain for 288
Well that makes sense, but at the same time, UFC's been doing a lot of last minute fight moving recently. Granted, those were fight nights and this is PPV. But then again, they also denied Arman filling the spot so... feel like it's something i can go back and forth on all day, but seems like the egg's on their face, really.

Wouldn’t after Ramadan be easier to make a lighter weight if anything?
Making weight isnt the main issue, fasting for a month is not conducive to having a good training camp and would make injuries far more likely, it's not about making the weight as much as it is making the weight while being able to perform well.

That’s fair enough. But then maybe he shouldn’t look for a fight at that time as I believe he did. At least not a fight against someone interested in fighting for the title ASAP at the weight that Belal is not willing to make.

Exactly. This ramadan thing isn't Gilberts problem.

If Belal wants to attend to his religious obligations it's all good, but Gilbert doesn't have to follow along with it.
