Before K1 days

Ha, I remember these mid 90’s days! Tarik Solak’s early cards at Festival Hall. Gurkan, Jenk Behic and Baris Nezif were good fighters and big names in the Western suburbs ( strong Turkish community).

with the massive Greek community in Melbourne the eventual fight of Zambidis vs Gurkan was huge.

I was ring side as a youngster when Gurkan ko’ed future world boxing champ paul briggs. Gurkan was a scary man, with scary power.
Just read he's in jail, damn

Yeah considering he was selling out stadiums for Tarik in Turkey sad he ended up broke, living with his mum before his ‘road rage’ incident.

Stan the man is doing well, his a motivation speaker amongst other things, mates in real estate who have been to his talks say his very good. Slammin sam Greco is doing really well also, has a series of cafes in and around Melbourne.

If you get the chance read Paul Briggs book ‘ heart, soul, fire’ great read.

Was he the same era in Australia? Looked for a link for his fight with Super Kick couldn't find one.

vick is older but they def. over lapped career wise, if they didnt fight each other they were on same cards. Louie beat sam soliman who was an accomplished kickboxer before becoming a WC in boxing. sam is still fighting today at 45.

Pipe down, Payak...

Peter Graham is doing well running a gym in Western Sydney, think he might be the aus boxing HW champ now as well. Fights numerous disciplines.

Yeah Adam Watts obviously got that huge jail stint for bringing in commercial amounts of drugs from Europe ( think his co accused were in the dutch kickboxing community) believe after that vicious attack he has regained his memory, ability to walk. Read last yr his lawyers argued his not medically fit to stand trial on further charges however. One of his former foes tosca Petridis ( fights on YT), who was a really talented kickboxer/boxer got into outlaw motorcycle gangs, was in the news for assaults etc.

Have a look on John wayne parr’s fb pg. he is very active on it and very funny. His Caged Muay Thai is getting big here.

The Australian kickboxing scene sounds a lot like the Dutch scene.

I never watched Ozkan much in kick boxing but I remember he fought on the undercard of one of Mundine's fights in boxing. No idea who he fought but they punched the absolute shit out of each other, very entertaining stoush.

Toska the greek/aussie yea hes tough. JWP is the man familiar with all the active guys what about ronny sefo whatever happened to that dude. had nothing on Ray obviously but I'm curious. Ray is a big favorite...his knockout of one of my all time favorites Jerome le banner is tough to watch but goddamn what a shot. I love how he switched stances/fired that right hand as he did to get max power..brutal shot. Jerome was face down ass up

Manson Gibson
vs Luc Verheye

vs Caeser Takeshi
vs Ernesot Hoost
Unique style that has never been close to replicated. Bad judging and reffing in the Ernesto fight. That side kick knockdown in the extension round should have been counted as a knockdown, and he won without it.
I don't know what he's up to these days or if he made enough money to not have to work during his retirement.

One of the most exciting fighters of the 80's and 90's. His unusual style was very effective and gave many fighters fits.

Manson is training fighters in Illinois these days. And, are you kidding, not have to work ? They didn't pay kickboxers shit back then.

I wasn't sure, I know Dennis Alexio made enough money to not have to work after retiring, but I think that's about it in the american kickboxing scene at the time.

if pettis keeps getting ' walled and stalled' in UFC he could switch to glory, fight cans and still make good coin. Glory seems obsessed with cracking US market ( sure if makes economic sense to do so)
