beating black belt legends after 4 years?

Demian Maia and Rousimar Palhares are somewhat similar cases (although they've lesser degrees of success in MMA and/or IBJJF).

Werdum is a little farther off, but not out of sight distant.

But yes, it's a highly unlikely to ever be repeated thing for a teenager to say "I wanna scrap", rise to the top of a grappling sport inside four years, then jump over to MMA and start tearing it up right away en route to multiple titles.

There will never be another person in BJJ that will win the Mundials at black belt with 4 years of training.

What weight class is this guy in? He looks like 170-180 in his podium picture at purple belt which was in 2014. Now he looks like 220+

It was impressive, but I think there were some interesting factors coming into play.

- Calasans did not look super sharp on that specific match. It wasnt his day. His failed throw put him in a terrible position
- The brown belt was huge compared to Calasans, had an incredible base (Calasans could not event move him in 50/50), and looked incredibly strong

I would be very curious to see how the Dagestan guy would look against a Buchecha or Rodolfo.

We used to train with a guy from Mongolia, and even though we were all white belts we kept getting this feeling that the guy didnt have a nervous system, and grew up hunting wild animals with his hands. He had no idea what he was doing but he could break most people in half.

The first time I rolled with Kamal Shalorus, I don't know, it was like he was from another planet.

Even among elites you can find monsters. This guy could be one.
