i was really impressed by this guy... 4 years in jiu jitsu and beat Claudio Calasans and other black belts.... He trained wrestling before, must have been a Russian beast since childhood but still, really impressive.... In about 10 months I'll have 4 years in jiu jitsu, reading about monsters like this makes me want to train harder

I am not that surprised by his victory. It sounds as if he grew up wrestling and if you have ever rolled with high level wrestlers they are extremely strong and have great base. Then add 4 years of eating, breathing, and sleeping bjj with a good coach and this is what you get... a beast on the mat. Most folks don't seem to realize that if you devote yourself full time to any one sport just how good you can become in a short amount of time. Could you imagine how good you could be if you were able to train twice a day 6 or 7 times a week with training partners doing the same

Lol

I do train twice a day 6 days a week. And i know many people who train like this here where i live. i think its more what you said first about the wrestling base and as i said before, hes probably been a beast since a young age....

Awesome man.. I'm a 3 days a week bjj'er.. With a job, wife and kids that's all I can make room for but it's better than nothing.

well hes from dagestan, where 10 years old boys wrestle bears for fun...

And, of course, some people are just phenoms.

I'm not trying to take away from this post but:

I was looking at your lineage on the signature section. Have you ever had the opportunity to train with Walid? He kinda reminds me of a tough old school bjj fighter like Ralph Gracie. Just run right through ya and lots of pressure..

I've been training with a bunch of guys from Dagestan that moved to Albuquerque to train at Jackson's mma. Holy shit these dudes are beasts. It's like fighting coked up grizzly bears.

BJ Penn comes to mind.

It's a joke. David Lang is a fake black belt who claimed to have gotten it from Wallid, and Wallid released this hilarious video about how big a fraud Lang is.

Haha.. thanks for clearing that up

Coked up grizzly bears. It bears repeating.

no offense the guy is good but for anyone who watched the match it was hardly an amazing performance and he won with calasans making a huge error going for that judo sweep which landed him into side control underneath the much heavier dagestani

I'm sure he's one to watch if he's only been doing this for 4 years

totally. growing up in on-and-off civil war, in the remnants of the soviet system, in a part of the world that prides itself on wrestling will do that

I don't think the BJJ world will ever come across another BJ Penn.

Only because of how competitive the BJJ scene is becoming. There has been many BJ Penn's as far as having the capacity to learn at the same rate or faster.

Demian Maia and Rousimar Palhares are somewhat similar cases (although they've lesser degrees of success in MMA and/or IBJJF).

Werdum is a little farther off, but not out of sight distant.

But yes, it's a highly unlikely to ever be repeated thing for a teenager to say "I wanna scrap", rise to the top of a grappling sport inside four years, then jump over to MMA and start tearing it up right away en route to multiple titles.
