Anyone else finding it funny that WB is touting "Biggest worldwide opening weekend for a superhero movie, ever!" when it's not in any way a level comparison? It earned over $57 million in China when most of its competition in this regard didn't open in China at the same time and the Chinese theatre market has grown tremendously since some of its competition for top spot came out. Anyone take away that $57 million and compare it to the other films it's competing with that grew the market for Superhero films?
This movie is a big opening - but they're going out of their way, by hook and by crook, to make it seem like it was bigger and better than it is. They certainly can't do it with reviews, so they want to spin the narrative of "Biggest superhero opening ever" - which is, at best, a bit of a stretch, at worst interpreting numbers to create a false image. Now I'm seeing "Biggest Tuesday in March EVER!"... Next I'll be hearing "BvS performs better than any superhero movie on the night of a full moon EVER!"
Next weekend will be telling. This movie had a big opening weekend and that's a good sign for the DCEU in general, but this is going about middle of the road for how it could have gone - not great, but not horrible either.
