BATMAN V SUPERMAN Thread v.12

Anyone else finding it funny that WB is touting "Biggest worldwide opening weekend for a superhero movie, ever!" when it's not in any way a level comparison? It earned over $57 million in China when most of its competition in this regard didn't open in China at the same time and the Chinese theatre market has grown tremendously since some of its competition for top spot came out. Anyone take away that $57 million and compare it to the other films it's competing with that grew the market for Superhero films?

This movie is a big opening - but they're going out of their way, by hook and by crook, to make it seem like it was bigger and better than it is. They certainly can't do it with reviews, so they want to spin the narrative of "Biggest superhero opening ever" - which is, at best, a bit of a stretch, at worst interpreting numbers to create a false image. Now I'm seeing "Biggest Tuesday in March EVER!"... Next I'll be hearing "BvS performs better than any superhero movie on the night of a full moon EVER!"

Next weekend will be telling. This movie had a big opening weekend and that's a good sign for the DCEU in general, but this is going about middle of the road for how it could have gone - not great, but not horrible either.

As CHL pointed out, the true test of the movie's legs will be the second weekend.
*cough*
My data doesn't have day-by-day breakdowns. And Opening Weekend/Opening Week is also a poor predictor of longevity so a strong Monday doesn't tell as much as you might hope.

The real first useful data point that I've found in predictions is the weekend-over-weekend retention numbers. So by next Monday we'll have a much better idea of where things stand. As of now, the film could end up anywhere between $309.7-633.6mil (that's the 95% confidence interval based on the historical performance of about 45 comic book films in the last ~10 years). If it matches MoS's retention numbers then it'll end up at around $380mil.
Just pointing out these points were already discussed two pages ago.

it is about 40 minutes too long and wonder woman didn't need to be in it. the doomsday fight looked weird and "lord of the ringish". Affleck killed it though, awesome job.

I said that Affleck would be the best thing about this movie before the first teaser was released.

I wonder if The Donald has already selected his VP...:)

Finally saw the movie, it was descent, there things
I like about it and others I didn't Affleck and Gadot
were great in their roles it's a shame we get to didn't
to their own films before this one< wasn't to crazy
about the they picked for the Flash, Jason Momoa
lloks like he would be an good Aquaman though I
think he'd be an better Namor.

The fight scene between the two was good but too
short.

As far as Jesse Eisenberg goes I think should been
the Joker instead I think he could pulled it off. I give
the film 6/10.

Finally watched it.

Ok movie. 6.5/10

Best thing was WW. I'm having the biggest crush on Gal Gadot right now.

.

That's a good point actually... Aquaman is too damned nice. Momoa just has good mannerisms for being an imperious, extremely confident ass of a king who looks down his nose at pretty much everyone else.

So is Eisenberg Lex or Lex Jr?

Batman's choreography was soooo much better than previous movies.

So is Eisenberg Lex or Lex Jr?
Lex Jr. Which is why I'm cutting him some slack on the character. He's technically a different person so he has his own unique tendencies

6/10 for me. Very long and drawn out. Didn't want to end and the editing was incoherent and the script was overly obtuse especially Lex Luther. Had some good pro's so as a fan I was entertained for the most part but as a movie fan it had a lot of problems.
