There's not even a close second. The only thing that can somewhat rival it is the Simpsons, but its quality fell off so drastically after the 10th season that it sullied the whole brand.

For a Saturday morning kids show, it had very dark themes, and the spooky noir feel allowed it to connect with adults on a level that 99% of kids shows wouldn't be able to.

I don't judge a movie/TV show from its accolades, ratings, or reviews, but it did win 4 Emmy awards, which is pretty incredible considering that it only ran for two seasons.

I'm not sure that many of you have even watched it, but for those of you who have, feel free to discuss your favourite episodes and moments from the show. Mine were the two episodes considering Kyodai Ken, the ninja. They revealed a lot of interesting flashbacks about Bruce's early martial arts training, his single-minded determination, and his unshakeable samurai mentality.

I mean overall quality I'm going to go Simpsons and South Park because I think the best episodes of those series are superior to even the most excellent episodes of BTAS.

That said, I EASILY rank Batman as the best of the animated superhero shows I watched growing up. Spider-Man was enjoyable for the time but I have no real interest checking it out again in adulthood. X-Men was fun, but if you watch an episode now, you see that it doesn't age as well.

But Batman the Animated Series is still awesome. I watched a few episodes on Prime recently and they were awesome. What's very impressive too is that quality didn't drop when they changed up the animation style and some other creative choices for the final season. The episode with Scarface and the Ventriloquist from that season is one of my favorites. Awesome.

I can't wait till my kiddo is old enough for this show. Whole series is on Amazon Prime.

Makes me sad that this was the quality of shows I grew up with and the stuff on now for kids is just god awful.

Nothing tops the Simpsons. There are too many great characters, jokes, moments, episodes to even begin to list

The Ventriloquist is the best episode imo as well, although there are tons of other good ones.

The story was so well done, it would make a sweet movie on its own

The opening is certainly up there.

Elfman score is iconic. Great that they used that segment for the show's theme.

He did an amazing job with the music in the sequel too. The music during the birth of Penguin segment and the credits scene it leads into is phenomenal.

I also rank the Simpsons as the best cartoon ever made. Don't get me wrong, I love Batman, but he doesn't appeal to everyone. The Simpsons transcends every generation and every culture.

I agree somewhat. It set the standard for comic book cartoons. Very grown up, very dark. Kevin Conroy and especially Mark Hamill were iconic with their voice work. However, The Simpsons is not only the greatest cartoon ever made it may be a Top 10 television show of all time.

X-Men was fantastic as well. So was the Justice League Unlimited.

I’m a Scooby Doo Guy, but Batman was awesome.

Also loved:
Justice League
Justice League Unlimited
The Last Airbender
Batman Beyond
The X Men

Loved that show growing up.

I am vengeance, I am the night, I am BATMAN!

Justice League for me. However, BTAS did open the door for grittier more real storytelling that wasn't done in weekly animation before.

a very underrated show was the silver surfer.

The episode with clayface scared the shit out of me growing up
