Fight for free too. I mean he should be happy that the ufc is paying to give him exposure.
They've also announced back up plans in the pastIt's no secret that the fight has been cursed since the beginning.
He's 3-0 in his last 3 fights, all 1st round KO's against tough fighters. Regardless, if neither fighter gets hurt and Justin doesn't have to fight, he'll be in great shape for a fight soon after. Dana should book him for the very next event.Seems like he's bought into his own hype. I know the guy's coming off 3 first round KO's but he's gonna get humbled real quick with the attitude he's carrying nowadays.
“Highlight” recently told Luke Thomas that while it isn’t his preference to serve as backup, he is willing to do so as long as the promotion covers all his training costs to prepare for the title fight.
Gaethje should be fighting on the card. He can be in camp preparing for an actual fight and preparing to make championship weight and to go 5 rounds. If something goes wrong with either Khabib or Ferg then he is ready. If nothing goes wrong then he still has a fight.
Put him in the card.
Why not?Now that Khabib vs Tony title fight is official, fight fans have four months to sit on their edge of their respective seats, praying that nothing goes wrong prior to fight night.
Injuries and Tiramisu have forced the cancellation of the previous four bookings, so you can’t blame the mixed martial arts (MMA) community for being a little cautious when it comes to getting overly-excited for this fight. Heck, even UFC president Dana White was a bit nervous when considering booking the fight once again.
But if the promotion doesn’t want to be left high and dry a fifth time, it would behoove the UFC powers that be to have a backup in place.
That’s where Justin Gaethje comes in.

It’s not a bad proposal, and UFC has been known to pay fighters to serve as backups in the past just in case something goes wrong. And givem the track record of Khabib and Ferguson, if there was ever a time to have another man on standby, this is it.
They’ve done it for a ton of other fights. Doesn’t hurt anything. I know I’m not alone in wanting to see Justin vs Khabib more than tony. I don’t think tony has anything for khabib. I really don’t.So, is the UFC supposed to announce Gaethje as a backup? That would probably do more harm than good, as it's a way of saying "we're not sure Tony-Khabib is happening.
I mean, at this point no one is sure its going to happen. And it'd hype me up real good to know that if we lose Khabib-Tony that at least we'll get to see Gaethje against either.
Not a bad idea either but who should Gaethje fight? A lot of the top LWs are booked and I don't think Gaethje should have to risk fighting a lower ranked guy. Normally I don't like that logic but Gaethje has KOed three ranked guys in the first round in a row, if anyone deserves to sit on his laurels in the division while Khabib and Tony sort things out its Gaethje. But that said who wouldn't want to see him fight?
It's happened before for Khabib and Gastelum. So, is the UFC supposed to announce Gaethje as a backup? That would probably do more harm than good, as it's a way of saying "we're not sure Tony-Khabib is happening.
Lol islam still needs a top 15 win firstSo he should be paid to prep as a backup fighter in case needed, but not paid to actually fight on the card against someone else?
Book Gaethje vs Makhachev, if he feels he can beat Khabib he shouldn't see Islam as high risk? Plus a camp for Makhachev would help him if he had to sub for Tony because Islam and Khabib's styles are similar.
this is the solution
