Bas Rutten VS Wanderlei Silva

At the time the fight was going to happen, Wandy would win.

Injuries and Age fucked Bas.

Nobody could stop Wanderlei in his prime. Nobody.

But in a streetfight, Bas has a bit of an advantage.

IDK, I'd still take Wand. Drops Bas with a wild right hand in a brawl, then finishes him with knees/punts on the ground.

I hope you mean no fighter in Wand's weight class during his prime could stop him because today's Jon Jones tears up prime Wand.

Bas vs Wand fantasy fight has been a popular debate among older fans. Me and my friends would talk about who would win and we'd always agree that Wand takes the cake. That was about 7,8-9 years ago.

Your last memory of a fighter do influence your pick and based on Wand's last fights I think Bas might've had a shot at beating Wand if they both fought each other in their prime.

Not anybody that faced Wand in his prime, but some of today's LHW's would have beaten prime Wand. Jones would have probably. Machida and Gustafsson have a good chance.

@TS, why K1 rules?

K-1 and Pride promoters were having trouble finding an opponent for Wand for Shockwave/Dynamite. Bas Rutten was approached on short notice to fill the slot.

Rutten, who hadn't trained consistently in several years, made a counteroffer. "Why not have me and Wanderlei fight with Pride gloves and Thai boxing or K-1 rules?"

The promoters liked the idea, but before Rutten could sign anything, Tatsuya Iwasaki had materialized.

"I thought maybe they had gotten some real tough dude, but no," Rutten recalls.

no one could beat prime Wanderli? oh really well Mark Hunt begs to differ, that was a prime Wanderli and the best Wanderli ever and Mark dropped him hard.

Bas over Wand in any type of fight , not even close either .

Not even close is means it wouldnt even be competitive.
Did you even watch wand in pride?

Um... He was also an ENTIRE weight class above him that DIDNT
have a 265 pound limit. And he survived.
Go back to pig farming.

I swear i have no idea why i bother with coming to this part of the forum.
ZERO logical sense being displayed here.

Difficult but assuming Bas was healthy at the time and under K1 rules I think Bas would take it. Wand was a beast but Bas was a very intelligent fighter.

It's too bad Pride never offered Bas a fight with Silva. Meanwhile they were trying to get every japanese guy on their roster to take down Silva.

They did, but before he could sign anything they went with Iwasaki instead.

I would favor Bas under that scenario. "K-1 rules in the best shape of his life"
That said Wand was a better mma fighter in his prime.
War Wand!
