I get that he was good at his job. Or at least he was bad enough at his job but competent enough that he focused on skits and producing etc.
My point was that I don't really see why people are that invested in him. Punked was happening at the same time, plenty of other shows historically pranked guests etc. I'm not even convinced with your arguement he started anything particularly and even if he did, I don't think it was that important.
All of us is luck and right time, place. Some people create beauty, and they are great. I just don't think he was one if the. Still I wish him the best and hope he kicks his addictions.
