Multiplat BALDUR'S GATE III

Has anyone here actually played D&D? I hear this is the closest a videogame has gotten to an actual session.

For me, Disco Elysium and Pillars 2 stand as the best games capturing the feeling of playing D&D, and I've played them all I think, from Planescape, to Never Winter, Icewind Dale etc...

If this game surpasses Disco and Pillars, I'm in for a great long weekend!

I'd love to hear your thoughts if you've played the EA of BG3, and also D&D.

As far as D&D captured on film, this Community episode of their first venture is my fav. I can't believe Netflix won't play it because Chang is wearing face paint to be a dark elf, preposterous!

I was just reminiscing about how I played Larians very first game all those years ago. Its remarkable how far theyve come.



It was a goddamn good game, though.
 
I don't really get it though, why is it such a big deal and why is it pushing sales so much? It's like a cute novelty. They said it made BG3 jump 70 places to 4th on the best seller's list, but wouldn't one of the biggest hyped rpg games ever be like top 3 in the first place?

Nah. RPG's in general are still a bit niche(especially CRPG's), and "Baldurs Gate" is more on the hardcore side of things. It's highly respected in certain circles, but it's no "Final Fantasy" in terms of brand recognition, and being an automatic money printing machine.

Larian has grown into one of the premiere rpg studios in the world. Dos2 sold 7.5 million copies over its lifetime, BG3 will make more for sure. Pre-access sales are already over 2 million. I agree that the particular genre is kind of niche, but it is kinda a money printing machine, but one that was earned.

Just checked FF15 sales, currently it's past 10 million, I'm far from an expert on the matter, but I don't think it's unfeasible that BG3 will match that.

Nice to see some love for Pillars 2. Loved that game.

But yes kind of wild due to the s being above min spec PC. But could be due to split screen co-op

I meant to say it could be delayed into next year, not over a year. I edited my post.

From what I read it is 100% due to the split screen and how memory intensive it can be. Jez at windows central did an article on the series s where he speculates this what the reason for them removing coop split screen from Halo.

As a Series X owner myself, I have to say it’s a bit surprising for MS to take a position that the X and S have to have such a strong level of parity. Like I mean the X is a “premium” console so why can’t it provide a premium experience for its users, like providing split screen coop for Halo Infinite? I mean I sort of get it, but by simply removing a feature that the X is capable of supporting to maintain parity with the S does a major disservice to the X user base. Like why pay top dollar for a product that they’re seemingly hamstringing.

I assume it’s the reason why the ray tracing feature for Minecraft has never released for Series X despite being showed off by MS three years ago; that the S simply isn’t powerful enough to run it.

I don't think MS realized the RAM would be such a limiting factor. I know they released an update to free up some of the RAM for devs but I guess it still wasn't enough. Now they've put themselves in a situation where the S is more popular than the X so you risk pissing off most of your userbase if you start letting devs cut features.

Thankfully we don't have to choose an alignment in this game, but I'd usually go for chaotic neutral in D&D.

Lawful good. Can’t say I’m all that surprised, though I thought there was a chance I’d end up with neutral good.
