Got rejected by a huge crush in HS in front of the whole gang after falling for some "misdirections" by her. It was playing in the background at a friend's house. Still hits hard when I hear it. Scumbag memories.

I had a friend who died in a car accident. This was his favorite song. I lost it when they played it at his funeral.

6. Sinead O'Connor - Drink Before The War

It was around zero-hour for Desert Storm. I was stationed here in Ga. and my older brother (Army) was over there. I went to a watering hole on-base and ordered a glass of bourbon. I had just turned 21 and it seemed the thing to do. I sat there lost in my thoughts, nursing my drink. I finished it, paid, and started driving around on my base. It was night, the roads were empty, and I popped in Sinead's cassette into my car stereo. This song played immediately... As it came on, I saw the alert lights spin up...

The war had begun and I was helpless.

My brother eventually returned and has gone into ALL of the actions since that day until he retired.

He's not the same person I used to know. :(

7. Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer

Summer between 6th and 7th grades, my left hand was accidentally crushed with a sledgehammer. Oddly, this song was playing on the way to the trauma center.

My friend and I were crushing aluminum cans with a sledgehammer, the type of dumb shit two kids do while being unsupervised in the mid-90s when every adult down at the lake is absolutely hammered and partying over Fourth of July weekend.

My friend missed a can, it flew off of the stump. I picked it up and put it back on as he was midway through the down-swing... at nothing for some reason.

Four surgeries and a year of therapy. My hand is good but I sacrificed my left index finger.
